Modified casing for apple, anyone done it?

One of my co-workers just bought his first apple. He got the Macbook Pro. He was telling me that you can get 3rd party places to modify the case in a variety of colors and designs. He said it cost about $100-200 to do. I was curious if anyone had experience with doing this and also what method do these places use to do this? I am aware of the sticker method (common on PC's) but is there any other way to do this that doesnt look so "cheap"?

color ware will do it for you, but it costs $450, so you may not want to go that route. Other places will also laser-engrave the lid of it for you, which then in turns causes the backlighting to shine through (not sure if that happens on the new LED backlit screens) to illuminate the laser-engraved whatever.

heh, well i'm playing with the idea of building my own Mac Pro. I've tracked down logic boards, cases, and the monster 900w power supply. since i'd be doing it from parts the case is up in the air. more than likely i'd just go w/ an actual Mac Pro case though.

You doing it for giggles or because it is significantly cheaper?

And it will match the Mac Pro in terms of specs? I know that they overcharge on RAM and Hard Drives, but last I heard they were pretty good on processor/mobo/case and stuff like that

hmm how much are all the parts going to run? i have looked into that, but from what i can tell, it would be more expensive to build it myself than to just buy one from apple

well, i'd actually build it under spec, hence affordable. the initial power macs readily accepted the quad cores right out of the gate. the only stipulation for me would be whether there would be any EFI limitations to running slower CPUs, which i doubt. but i basically have all the hard drives i would need, so i'd just need RAM, CPUs, and a GPU, all of which I'm way overdue for an upgrade anyways. for case, board, and power supply i'm at ~$700 without really having looked very hard. there's the ebay stuff, but i'm also going to check w/ a local apple reseller that has been pretty willing to sell me anything w/ an apple part number on it in the past, so we'll see how the prices boil down. i think it's doable for under $1500 and ideally at ~$1200. anything over $1500 and i'd be better off buying w/ the student discount or on amazon.
