Connecting laptop to satellite receiver box?

Is there a way to watch satellite t.v. on my laptop if I have a HDMI to DVI cable?

Basically I have the hardware, but is it possible, do I need some kind of software to connect to my direct tv box?

You need a video capture card or TV Tuner card. Your Laptop does not have Video in by default. Also you'll have to use the box's controller or you'll have to buy a USB Infrared transceiver to spoof the remote.

Damn that sucks. Anybody know of a good usb tv tuner card with HDMI input?

The only things with HDMI input that I know of are TV's. Everything else with HDMI is an OUTPUT. THink about it, if a dvd recorder had HDMI input, think of the recordings you'd get!!
