I am totally new to burning CD's to play on an MP3. What software would you recommend?

Thank you. I appreciate it.

If you've been using iTunes to download the music for your iPod, you can just burn CD's with iTunes. Considering Apple's proprietary codecs that might a good idea. (Though I don't know why you need to make CD's to play things on an mp3 player.)

Also, you can either burn CD's with .cda files (CD audio) (iTunes does this), which can play in any CD player, or .mp3 files, which mean you can fit more files onto the CD but that only MP3-capable machines can read (use a different burning software).

You mean you want to make an MP3 disc? I have a In-Car CD Player which also reads MP3 discs. What i do is i burn the mp3 files directly to CD as Data. I have been able to play every MP3 backup disc ive made in the CD player. You can use Nero or any Burning program that allows you to make a Data Disc. I suggest organizing MP3s on folders before burning because a lot of songs can be fit on 1 CD and can be difficult to find on a tiny Display.

In other words, if you make a Music CD the mp3 files will be converted into .cda files and you could fit about 20-25 songs on a single cd, if you make a DATA CD with MP3 files on it you can fit more than 120 songs on a single CD and can be played in an MP3 Capable CD player

I think he means ripping, not burning.

I'm happy with my 256kbps encoded MP3s ripped by Windows Media Player. And it's free!

If you're trying to rip CDs, Windows Media Player works fine (for any mp3 player), or you can use iTunes (best for iPods). Ripping a CD is when you transfer the files on the CD onto your computer (from there you can transfer them to your mp3 player).

I also recommend EAC with Lame using VBR. I am pretty picky and it is difficult to tell the difference from the original. And it is also free.

Windows media at 256 is OK also.

Another vote for EAC & Lame.
