bit of both, i'll post some of the ones I'm looking at but first, I'm not in the us, so would there be any problems buying from a u.s site? ie V.A.T.? Ii would be quite a bit cheaper, but I haven't looked propally on any U.S siutes 'cause I'm unsure if its wise to buy there and because i'm not sure of any good U.S laptop stores. but here are ones I've found on uk sites - I've gotten at least one for every good processor,s Core 2 Duo Core Duo core duo again AMD Turion x2 (top of my budhet but had imnotdrphil's chipset Dell AMD Turion x2 http://www.shopacer.co.uk/pp/Acer_Aspire_Laptops/Acer_Aspire_5000_Series/Aspire_5052AWXMi.html so what you think?

They all appear to be decent laptops but they have weak GPU's so if you plan on playing games then they might not be a good idea

Well, I'd just like to say thanks to everyone who contributed to help me understand laptops, especially imnotdrphil and ghazgull.
I've decided that since i don't urgently need a laptop right now i am going to wait until either a great deal comes along or until I get a bit more cash.
you might see me around here more but if not thanks for all the help everybody.
I just want you to look at this one more dell (the top one) http://ecomm.euro.dell.com/dellstore...&details=false
the biggest problem though is that the video card is just a crappy intel but it still seems pretty good value, great ram

The only real suggestion I can make is maybe up the integrated graphics card as I fund them insufferably slow and often tend to bottleneck an otherwise good PC. Older games are fine, if you are looking to play WOW and CAC3 the GPU will create a nice slideshow for you.

What you have posted above is nice. Keep the 2GB RAM you will love it. If your really cutting corner you can down the HD size (up to you) I have and 80GB @ 5400RPM and i have 60GB free.

Also, keep an open mind, you'd be suprised what new gadgets come about and you may find them to your appeal but dont have the right setup to accompany the new gadget.

what do you mean by that?
lol sorry, i wasnt sure if youd know that. You may see that in other threads as well

Let me explain-

When your computer cant run a game smoothly, it runs 'choppy' or sluggish. Some have come to call this poor performance 'slideshow' If you have ever seen a real slideshow (im sure you have) youll know that it runs reallll slow changing from frame to frame.

Its basically just saying that the game will run crappy.

so a nice slideshow is bad? or is it good?
Dam these 'Uber'-techie words! lol
No no, when a game is choppy the reason behind it is because the PC cant produce enough framerates to ensure smooth gameplay.

When I say 'this will make a nice slideshow' im saying that the PC will not be able to run the game smoothly.

If your playing games released years ago then you can go w/ a crappy GPU.

If you plan on playing games being released now(and games relesaed in the future) you will need better hardware.

But to clarify again

slideshow=bad game performance (easiest way i cant think of LOL)

o hey philíp what d'you think of the dell i picked
is dear not widly known in the u.s?

Also Max, if you shop around in the right places you can find a good deal on those Asus's. I recall one post where one kid got it for like $1100 (american dollars) which for its performance is quite nice.

That link was to the mavufacturer which always have high prices, but go though another seller and you hopefully should be able to find a sweet deal.
