It runs fine on my macbook. iSight works and all that. I'm not sure for hte Macbook Pro.. should work fine too

how about volume control and all that on the keyboard? how do these translate in windows?
If you hold the 'fn' key while pressing them, yes they do work. No on screen indication, but they do work.

In Windows, the F* keys are for software functions, and you hold the fn key to activate their hardware functions. It is the exact opposite in OS X.

Just make sure you get BootCamp 1.3 and you should have all the drivers you need. Though I have heard that the drivers on ATi's website are better than the included drivers.

apparently bootcamp 1.3 makes the keyboard lights work with the mbp/xp.

personally i installed 1.3 on a fresh install, and windows never got past the bootup.

Vista works great on my MBP... everything works fine!

I have onscreen pop ups with brightness, volume and eject in 1.3 Boot Camp.

Wait, seriously? Sweet. I installed 1.3 (I think) just for the sake of installing it, to make sure that all the drivers were up to date. But if it gives me onscreen pop ups, I will have to check that out. I don't spend much time in Vista, so that is probably why I didn't notice it. Just checked, I don't have 1.3 installed.. I guess i'm downloading that when I get home tonight!

You can change that in the Keyboard preferences making it so you have to hit FN to change the volume and such.

Just reporting I have on screen pop ups for volume and brightness - with BootCamp 1.3, XP Home. I have it set up to use Fn+ for the commands.

I dont have backlit keys when running Windows...

EDIT: oops ... now I have backlighting ... it came on automatically as the room darkened, and now the keys to adjust it also work. Don't know if it had to get triggered once by ambient light changes or what ... not complaining.

Note that 2 finger scrolling also works, even though I'd read conflicting reports on that.
Two finger scrolling has worked for the past few versions... it isn't as polished as OS X, but it works as does 2 finger right click. The initial drivers that supported it weren't that great, but the 1.2 really did a good job with it.

Can anybody let me know if tap clicking works under 1.3?
No, tap clicking doesn't work in 1.3.

Scrolling is kind of... difficult... It's not as precise as it is in OS X.

Here's hoping tapping + two finger tapping gets included in the next release!

I just don't understand why tap clicking isn't there.

Seriously, that to me is the only thing missing from the bootcamp drivers.

A few months ago I was at a Microsoft Launch Event for Office 2k7 (hey, free copies of office pro) with a friend of mine. We both had macbooks, and the guys a couple rows back were poking fun at us. "Who brings a mac to a microsoft event?" "yea, they are trash anyway, you can't even right click, what an idiot!"

So I booted into Windows, and wandered on back to them.
TheStu: "So, you think I am stupid for buying this huh? Well, let's look at what we have. I have a Sudden Motion Sensor, do you?"
Silly HighSchool Kid: "No"
TheStu: "I have a magnetic power connector, do you?"
Silly HighSchool Kid: "No, but I can right click and you only have 1 button"
TheStu: "Oh.... right, see, I just do this *places two fingers on teh trackpad* and this *clicks the one button* and my word, that looks a lot like what happens when you right click! Oh, and I can scroll"
Silly HighSchool Kid: "So can I look *moves his finger to teh scroll zone*"
TheStu: "Oh, yea, I can scroll from anywhere on my trackpad, see watch *scrolls through an explorer window. So i guess that right now, the best way to run Windows is.... on a Mac, weird huh?
Silly HighSchool Kid: "whatever"

Ran into another little snag. Playing the Overload demo in Windows ... one of the commands requires you to hold the left & right mouse buttons down at the same time - can't figure out how to make this work on the MBP. I imagine this is a temporary issue, as the actual game (not that I really care) should have an option to remap command keys.

I can deal with the right click work arounds, but would it kill Apple to offer it as hardware feature? One of my other notebooks has a trackpad where the left side of the mouse bar (whatever you call it) is a left click ... the right side gives a right click. This would be, I think relatively simple to turn on/off in preferences for those die hard one button clickers.

* Wonders how Windows 3.1 would run on a Macbook *

really really fast =P

I have Vista Home Premium on my MacBook Pro, and so far the only realy issue I have is that when I put it to sleep in Vista or I let it sit for a while and it sleeps or hibernates, I'm not sure which one, when I try and turn it back on, it turns on but the display stays black and I have to hard shut down. Any know about this?
wondering how all your MBP fans are working in vista. mine seem to go on quite regularly and stay on
post #19 of 20
I thought our fans are always on, just at a very low speed?
Since you only hear them when they spin up to a higher speed most people think they're off, but yeah, they're constantly running.
