BeOS and mandrake on 8887

Thread Starter
I have a sager 8887, 3.6ghz, gig ram 9000 radeon, whole nine yards. I have been tring to get mandrake 8.0 or BeOS r5.0 to run on my sager ( to get rid of some of the bugs with my windows os namely a backup registration file that belongs to a drive that doesnt exist and various files that tend to get stuck in folders and my desktop when deleteing them) problem is that beos will almost complete the boot then crash before i can start the install process and madrake will install till it reads the mem and say that it has 150 megs or something like that, then locks up. has anyone else experienced this or knows where i can get info.

ps. drives where properly partitioned for the appropriate OS.

Hello,

i tried Mandrake 9.0, 9.1, 9.2 on my 8890 : crash on reboot after install.
Mandrake 10.0 (Community version that is a pre-commercial version with some bugs : 10 official will be on sale and download on May) is fantastic and clean install on my 8890 but still have bugs.

So Mandrake 10 and Redhat 9 is running on my 8890.

I expect Mandrake 10 official to take place in my 8890. An impressive version for notebook users with kernel 2.6.

I don't think BeOS can properly run on many machines built after 2000 (or whenever it was killed). Too bad, of course, but getting Be to run on an 8890 would take some serious tweaking and driver writing.

If it is a temporary thing you need, try KNOPPIX and go the linux route from the CD.
