if you are using VIA SATA then click here:

VIA RAID v.550b (SATA) Driver:

note- for future use copy contents of drvdsk to floppy for SATA/RAID driver at Windows Installation.
VRAIDDrv-drvdsk-xp-32
**This new driver also fixes Choppy sound/video/skipping issues caused by the default driver installed by windows

Hi Fox5, I have exactly the same problem: chipset ich8m-e from intel, with a Toshiba Satellite A205 in my case. But I'm not able to find the driver for this chipset on Intel's page! Can you tell me what exactly you searched for, or the URL of the page where you got it? Thanks in advance!

Thank you for the link, qhn! But now my problem is: I cannot run this self-extracting file on my old windows machine. It says "this computer does not meet the minimum requirements", presumably because it doesn`t have a sata harddisk. But on my new laptop, I cannot run the setup program obviously because I don`t have a workin windows on it. Seems ridiculously like a hen-and-egg problem.
So do you guys have any idea where I might get the raw drivers from (for the Intel ICH8M controller, running XP)?

Thanks a lot in advance!
Cheers

in installing sata driver, u either do it from a floppy or slip-stream it into ur windows installation disk. I am not sure if the raw driver would do u any good, since it requires an external device set up (floppy of slip-streamed installation cd)

I'll see if i can dig up a "raw" driver, doubt it since it comes mostly with other set up utilities in the package. Hopefully other forum users can get to it before me

I just had the exact same problem with my bro's Satellite laptop, and I figured out a way to do it that didn't require any drivers (for my case, at least). If you go into the bios, in the advanced section, and change the SATA controller mode from ACPI to Compatibility it should detect the hard drive.

My problem was with a Satellite P305D, but if the bios's are similar (they should be), then this should work for you too ^_^

Good luck! Vistas no una revolución

I just tried what you said Swayzor, but how long should it take in 'legacy' mode to format 250gb? Mine was still stuck at 1% formatting after about 10 minutes.

it can take quite a while to format a hard drive. I usually start the process when I'm going to bed or starting another project and come back to check on it later. Total time to finish depends on the speed of the machine/hdd and the hdd's size, but it CAN take hours to complete. Be patient, give it a half an hour and see where it's at.

Sorry to bump the thread. I've been looking vigorously for the SATA driver for a satellite a205-s5000 so I can slipstream it into an xp cd. However, I seem to keep running into many walls along the way.....

Anyways, I've slipstreamed multiple times with different driver files straight from toshiba's website and I can't seem to find the right files. Apparently, toshiba doesn't carry the specific drivers for their own product. And their customer support is crap...... T__T

Anyways, if someone could help me out with finding the right files, that would be amazing. I've wasted so many cd's and it's getting old.

You need to go to Intel and pick up the chipset/disk controller for Mobile Intel GL960 Express Chipset - that is your Sata Driver

cheers ...
