Any word yet on the Go 8xxx cards.

Thread Starter
Has anyone here heard any word yet when Sager will start offering the new Nvidia 8xxx Go cards? I would like to purchase a new computer but want to wait since there current lineup of laptops are basically obsolete already. Also, has anyone heard any rumors about when Nvidia plans on releasing a 8800 Go?

The 8700M GT will hopefully be available in the Clevo M570RU (Sager NP5790) and Clevo D900C (Sager NP9260) by early August. It's unknown if/when they will release a G80-based 8800M GPU (only one source even acknowledges its existence), but it would probably be later this year (or even early next year).

It's unknown at this time how the 8700M GT will perform, but going by its specs, it's essentially an overclocked 8600M GT. The 128-bit memory bus will most likely cripple it at high resolutions and AA, so the Go 7950 GTX will likely continue to be the king of high-end mobile graphics cards (which is why I'm going ahead and ordering my Sager NP5790 now, instead of waiting around for the 8700).

Hey, Joga, once you get that Sager, can you put up some benches/information about it? I'm looking at buying one, but I don't know enough to take the jump yet.
Thanks.

It would be nice to put an 8XXX card in my 9880. Maybe it would use the same or less power than the current NVIDIA 6800 ULTRA so i wouldnt have to upgrade the motherboard.

I would definatly consider upgrading my 9880 to an 8XXX card with DX10 Support. I wish sager would offer a core 2 duo motherboard upgrade for my D900T Chassis!!

That would basically mean they would use your HDD and LCD to build a new computer. . . not really cost effective.

I have been reading that Nvidia uses an MXM format for their laptop video cards. It is my understanding this meant for upgradeability of the video card... does this mean the 9750 can be upgraded to the 8800 when/if it comes out?
No. the 9750 did not use the mxm style card so it cannot be upgraded.

Even if it could be upgraded, laptops need to be designed to accomodate the cooling of the videocards, so even some mxm-compatible laptops may not work with the 8800

what about 5760 is it mxm style?
Do you think it will possible to upgrade to 8800?
No, it is not mxm style. MXM is a pci-express module. The 5760 has a proprietary vga card. I think it is very unlikely that it will be upgradeable to the 8800
