Can't go wrong with either... I would prefer the Sager though.. just good build quality, and customer support. Plus that no bad pixel option makes it even more sweeter..
i would opt for the alienware... a solid machine with huge power, cant go wrong with either really but my preference is to the styling of the AW.
Well with the sager your getting faster CPU speed, and FSB speed, and a better graphcis card with SLI at about the same price as the AW. IMO I think your getting a great deal with the Sager while the AW you configed is more comparable to the sager 5670, because they both have the same GPU and CPU. I think the np 9260 is a step up from the m9750. Also you can check out resellerratings.com, apparantly alot of people who bought from AW are getting missing , bad, or totally different components then what they ordered, while Sager looks pretty good.
there are also thousands of people who get perfectly fine AW's....

the alienware can get into SLI so if you want to later you can do that. as it sits the AW will have much better battery life and in reailty unless you are obsessive about benchmarks and have no care at all about battery life the power of the alienware will be enough for most anybodies needs.

the sager will have better benchmarks but wont have the battery life, and it wont have the style....

in the end its up to you

Hey thanks for the help guys, I still havent decided I guess only time will tell.

Well, for my 2 cents, I'll never buy a Sager again. I had two of them, and the first was ok, if a bit loud.

The second, however, was a design failure from the beginning. I got an 8890, and had nothing but problems. Sager never fixed it, and eventually I just stopped sending it back in the attempt to get them to get their cooling design problems right.

In addition, they designed a battery into it that wouldn't actually hold the machine running. Their solution- buy a bigger battery or just don't unplug it. Right....

Sager better have a better cooling design to cool down that desktop processor because playing games will raise the temps high and im afraid it will over heat and break so you might want to consider that too...

Just to let you guys know AW is a rebranded Sager notebook. AW, Falcon Northwest, Voodoo, Hypersonic. There all Clevos.
actually the alienware in question is not... AW made a move away from clevo after some of the issues with the last time they used just a simply rebranded machine.
Nice, Glad there using Dell to make there notebooks now.

I kid I dont know whos making there systems now that there not using clevos.

I would get the SLI sager over the AW.

Well i personally would say go for the alienware, theres a solid community around it and customer support has always come in handy for me, ive only ahd one problem which i did myself (accidentally ent the grpahics card fan by cleaning too hard)

i dunno about america but sager isnt really a popular brand in uk (at least i ahvent seen much of it)

have you looked at any other brands for a notebook? asus are pretty solid machines, look quite nice also?

I thought about going w/ the sager as well...but I'm going w/ the 9750...

although both are considered DTR...the size and weight of the 9260 is absolutely massive...

I am bias, since I've owned 3 alienwares, my reasons are:
1. I like the look better
2. I like the battery life + lighter weight vs the sager

I would consider the 5790 more than the 9260, since it has santa rosa...also since the OP is opting for a single card solution in the AW vs SLI...by the time he gets the 2nd 7950 to SLI the AW, I'm sure (fingers crossed) that Microsoft will come out w/ decent SLI drivers for vista

Whatever you do just don't get a desktop processor. That E6700 will get hot, very hot, and fast. Those kind of processors are made for desktops, and they have better airflow. When you try to cram a desktop CPU into a 13 pound block (not really a block but work with me people) it doesn't function the same way as it would in a desktop. I'd go with the Alienware, the m9750 is a beast
post #15 of 16
To be fair, I have to disagree with boomheadshot. Both my other Sagers had desktop processors. The cooling can be done effectively- I never had a problem with my CPU heat, and easily got within 5% of an equivalent desktop's speed.

My cooling issues (and pretty much everyone else who had the 8890 had the same problem) were with the video cooling. Which could have been fixed if the design had been done correctly. And the Sager, which is a big system, should be able to fit an effective cooling system in the chassis.

However, Sager doesn't stand behind their products when they do screw up. So you are completely out of luck when they make a mistake. Which is why I won't chance another $3000+ purchase on them.

However, you do get a better bang for the buck with Sager.

I've owned a clevo from Alienware, and after doing so, I would probably avoid them in the future from either company (of course that could change). But for the time being, the problems I had from owning the m7700a was less than desirable. I'm sure there are several of clevo owners who are satisfied though, and I may be in the minority - but I found the clevo to be rather unstable.

Anyhow, I am biased towards Alienware, like Yang, I like the style. Alienware customer service is decent, its very inconsistent at times, however all my problem resolutions from Alienware have always met or exceeded my expectations (i.e. my 9750 on order is a replacement system for my m7700a) I've always heard great things about sager as well, so as most have said earlier, either company would be fine.

Just remember the Sager NP9260 - V is going to be huge and heavy, and with a desktop proc, along with SLI, you'll be tethered to an outlet. You'll probably experience a similar experience with the 9750 as well, but not so much as with the Sager. I never had a huge problem with the size of my old clevo model, but the size does become an issue now and then... there were a few months last summer where I hauled it around with me to Minnesota, Arizona, Texas, Colorado - trust me - not a pleasurable experience, especially now that laptop/notebook computers have to be taken out to be in plain view.

Anyways, you can't go wrong with either model. The Sager will no doubt be quicker, with the sacrifice of a little mobility - as with mosts DTR's.
