your will most likely be core duo or core 2 duo, Santa Rose for Dell won't be out until the end of this month, and rumor had it model will change so I am not sure what will replace e1705. To find out what you have go to my computer then properties look at at CPU section see what it say. Yohan mobile laptop family start from model T2300 for 1.6 to T2600 up to 2.4ghz I think. Merom start with T5xx up to T7600 Santa Rose will start with odd number, I think I start at T7100, T7300, and T7500, I could be wrong and someone can correct that if I am wrong

thank that sucks i just saw the new santa rosa processor on newegg and they have a t7700 socket p i was hoping my motherboard could support but since you say the motherboards for dell wont be out until end of the month that suck it is cheaper than the t7600 and is better well spec wise

I would upgrade GPU rather than the CPU if I was you.

Theres a good chance DX10 cards won't come out for your laptop. This has happened before with the 9300, the cards for the 9400/e1705 are not compatible with it. I expect the same scenario with 1720/whatever the next one is called. The 7950gtx go is probably the end of the line for your laptop. It might actually get more expensive if you wait.

Most/all SR chipsets don't seem to support 800mhz ram (800mhz FSB but the ram is clocked down to 667). Besides 667mhz ram is fine. Not much faster than 533 anyway.

If your computer runs slow after you added more ram, there is definately something wrong. This is not normal. Try re seating. Switching the two untis around. And or, also do a memory test (do a search on memtest 86+.)

There is no basis for such a hope. The chances of you being able to upgrade to a DX10 GPU are pretty much zero.

i upgraded my memory ran all test says is ok contacted dell they wont help me said i need to contact the manufacture i had originally 1 gig 533 and went to 2 gig 667 and the card im not in a hurry to upgrade since the ati does very well on most things except the black settings on some movies but that might be my settings causing that problem and right now the only thing i have found is the nvidia dx10 is coming out for the santa rosa only nothing confirming ati yet

I am a GPU guy personally but yeah, I guess all 17 inchers dont have to have top-of-the-line (cant use the word enthusiast anymore) gpu's. If you like the screen size and gaming isnt all that important to you, then sure the x1400 is functional. I would not consider ATI as an option for high level notebook DX10 cards however considering how much power the desktop cards use (215 W max). But in terms of a mid-end GPU, this is kind of interesting. The newer ATI's have some pretty nice features such as UVD, 65 nm process, lower power req, low load temperatures, and fairly good raw power.
