Hey,
I've got a Dell Latitude D600 that I want to pass off to my dad, but the built-in modem does not work and I would like to see if it can be fixed first.
Specifically the modem does not get dial-tone. It is recognized by the software, and I am able to use hyper-terminal to send ATZ and ATDT commands, and I can hear the modem come off-hook, but it does not get dial-tone. I looked at the copper pins and they seem okay, so I am assuming that there is some kind of problem with the modem, the jack, or the connection between them.
Does anybody know if the modem a separate board, or is it part of the motherboard? Is it possible to replace the modem and the jack component simultaneously?
If not, I'll just get a PCMCIA modem for pops and pass the whole thing along, but I would generally prefer to get the modem fixed.
Thanks
