Macbook Pro WIFI Issues

Hey,

I've had a Macbook Pro Core Duo 2.16 for almost a year, my warranty runs out in the 6th of July.

I've been having WIFI issues since I recieved the laptop, but never had a chance to go to a genius bar, but my problems are as follows:
  • Numerous website such as myspace, cnn, washingtonpost, etc take much longer to load than on other windows and mac-based laptops in my house.
  • Most myspace pages do not load at all.
  • My WIFI conection drops numerous times, even when I'm just a few feet from my router.
  • I've checked with different routers in different places and the problem still persists
  • If I am about ten or fifteen feet away from my router or others, I lose connection and cannot regain it. I have tried with other laptops on the same router, and I can go much longer distances.
  • If my router is downstairs and I am upstairs, I lose connection.

I will probably be scheduling an appoint to the genius bar very soon, but has anyone else had these problems?

Thanks

im guessing you are using safari for myspace stuff? i have tons of problems with my pro and safari/myspace, i just use firefox. Something about the way the pages are set up dont agree with safari.

as for your wifi dropping and all that, unless you can duplicate it on their store wifi, theyre gonna tell you its fine. Have you tried another router, maybe at say a coffee house or something?

could be the hardware (err...wifi card) having issues, or could be something software related even. in any case, it is strage that only certain websites are slower while the rest of the intraweb is fine.

Hey Kgeier, I've tried both firefox and safari, both to no avail. I'm not sure how I would duplicate it, but I have tried at different Starbucks, and I usually have 1 bar of signal strength and then that usually drops after a few minutes.

Right, I'm thinking its probably a faulty airport card. Any other ideas as to what may be causing this or how to fix it? I'm really interested to see if anyone else has this problem. Thank you both for your input so far

sounds like a hardware issue since you've tried it at different wifi locations. go with your gut and make the appointment. if your signal at starbucks is really that weak, in light of their use of industrial strength equipment, your problem will very likely be replicable in the store. if they give u any flak, stick to your guns, particularly in light of your limited warranty being up in the near future.

and just as an option, you may want to consider this as the price is basically at academic pricing and you can avoid taxes if you don't live in CA.

I dropped the MBP at the apple store and they're taking a look at it, they believe it might be an antenna or the actual cards problem, and then they'll work from there. The router was just 5 feet away and the laptop had only 25 - 35% signal, so it showed it was a serious problem. But yeah, I'm stuck on an apple computer for now so I'm waiting it out :-P thanks for all the help guys, I'll keep you guys posted.
