Just got the service manual for the XPS M1330 and some photos (which I can't share unofortunately)
  • Intel Santa Rosa platform
  • GeForce 8400GM GS graphics
  • 128MB dedicated graphics memory
  • Slot load Optical Drive which will not be user replacable
  • HDMI and VGA ports
  • choice of LED or CCFL backlight.
  • 2MP camera for CCFL and 300kP for LED backlight.
  • 1024MB minimum memory and 4GB max
  • WXGA true-life screens.
  • Red or Black lid color
  • No Internal dial-up modem
  • available mobile broadband
  • Fingerprint reader available
  • Dell to offer SSD and Hybrid hard drives for this model.
  • Looks just like the 3D Renders posted earlier

That's the important stuff of it. It'll be released July 10th, not on the 26th. And no, there's still NOTHING about a 17" XPS yet.

I'm also wondering if 0.3MP cam is good enough for video chat. For me, having an LED screen is way more important than having a 2MP cam, I just hope the 0.3MP one is good enough for MSN Messenger.

And what was that about hybrid HDD? Are those the ones that have a small amount of flash built-in? Those would be cool if they're not astronomically priced.

I just also realised that my RAZR phone (which is old) has a 1.3MP cam in it that's tiny but takes decent pictures. Why couldn't they at least put something like that in the m1330 instead of the 0.3?

128 mb dedicated graphics memory means most probably it will be 64mb on the card and 64 from the system right?

I was thinking it just means 128MB dedicated (on the card). But who really knows? I'm most interested to know how it compares to the 7400 Go in the M1210, since that's 64MB dedicated and 192MB shared.

The video card has its own 128MB of RAM. There is turbocache for ADDITIONAL memory. When I say dedicated I mean that's what's physically in the system for the video card's sole use. Dell is no longer advertising the dedicated RAM + Turbocache amount it's now 128MB dedicated plus additional turbocache. For a GPU like the 8400GS 128MB is going to be enough.

The reason for the .3MP camera for the LED screen is that the LED screen will have a significantly smaller housing that will not have room for the 2MP camera. Why Dell doesn't just use the same sized housing for either screen I don't know.

I find your comments rather erroneous and fairly presumptuous. First, 128MB may or may not be enough. How do you know enough about the GPU to state 128MB is going to be enough? Second, I'd much rather have the LED display and the lesser MP web cam. I'd be majorly ticked if the housing was the same for both when one of the points of LED displays is they take up less room!

Some sources stated July 10 launch, but today (June 26) it looks to be available to ship from Dell. Expensive little sucker though when fully loaded.

Actually, members here in the past have been more excited about the lower power consumption and better quality lighting provided by the LED backlight than they have been about the size. Which is why I posed that rhetorical question about Dell using the same sized housing so people wanting the LED backlight could get the 2MP webcam.

I have Dell's Service manual, complete with all technical specs sitting right in front of me. And the amount of RAM on a video card is NOT the sole metric of a card's performance. The biggest chunk of your video card's memory will get eaten up by textures. The only game that currrently needs 512MB of texture memory is games running the Doom 3 engine and that's because the engine can use some ultra high resolution textures that won't fit on a card with less than 512MB. For low end GPUs they can't hope to run Doom 3 in Ultra mode anyway so giving them 512MB of texture memory is kinda lost. Professional level Development and 3D Design uses 512MB+ all the time, but Inspirons aren't designed for that crowd anyway.

My experience with servicing, configuring, and building PCs tells me that for a low-end GPU like the 8400 128MB of memory is plenty.

damn nice design for a 13.3" though. except maybe the 9 cell battery, that looks odd.

How much will it cost??

Sprint Mobile

Hello,
I'm wondering if any of the experts know if my already put in my
m1210 laptop sprint mobile card.

If I have to buy a new card and prescription?
That would keep me from buying a new m1330.
Thanks for any help.

I think this is what your asking.............You want to know if your sprint card in your m1210 will work in a m1330. I have ordered a m1330 and when it arives I will be able to tell you for sure. I plan on moving my sprint card from my m1210 to my new m1330.........

Yeah, your existing Mobile Broadband card can be moved over to the new System, both use Mini PCI Express for their Wi-Fi and broadband cards. Just install the drivers and connection software and go.
