Peeps Who Have Upgraded From XP to Vista

Hey There, its tome for me to start another pointless yet informative thread (i hope this doesn't get too annoying)

i was just wondering about those who have upgraded (or maybe are dual booting like moi) to Vista (any version)

It's been a few months now (since official release, i'm sure like myself many of you have possibly beta tested it at least) what do you all think of it, with a service pack already being made for it, and all does it feel complete enough to be usable, what would you like improved in it

maybe this will take off maybe it wont, its good to try though!

for me personally I like it alot, the Aero interface is great, nicely polished and its nice the OS is actually taking advantage of the System i purchased, makes me glad i did, however i'm not too happy with the sound,

creative have released the vista beta driver upgrades but i miss the proper audio console and the EAX and full advantage of the sourround system, so i still use XP pro (more than Vista as i love my music)

Dreamscene is nice! the subtle movements like the rain falling makes for a calming environment, although id like some more releases from the extras team, they seem to ahve gone a bit quiet....

other than that i'm ready to move over to Vista once Creative sorts its act out (at least for the Audigy 4 Pro series)

so whats your views, think its time for the complete move, have you already moved, think of any improvements! lets hear :-)

thanks for reading!

move baby, move...

I moved immediately.

I find Vista extremely fast, effiicient and cool. Its index search feature leaves others in dust. Of course, like XP junk slows it down but considering it's still early days I love it and would never go back.

i made the move early and i dont regret it.

Ok, i had probs with my hard drive 8 months into owning this puter. so, after getting the part i needed to get up and running i just decided to get the drive i wanted. so, i installed the factory copy of XP Home it came with. and guess what? 7 weeks later for no really good reason, XP crashed. i take exceptional care of this laptop, both the software and hardware environments. im an IT major, and thus computer literate. i dont have ANY risky behaviors and i treat this thing like diamonds to a poor man.

That said, XP still died for no good reason. That REALLY SERIOUSLY ticked me off. on that very day, i got out my copy of Vista i had gotten through school, and i decided XP can go to HE##.

I have Vista Ultimate, i went ahead and got the Extras and i like it. i installed it and formatted right over top of XP. the format AND install took under 40 minutes from start to first boot of Vista. it was smooth as silk, painless, fast, easy, and DEFINITELY a LOT MORE user friendly.

From the very first moment, Vista was FASTER. and as i started to use it, heavy use and light use, mobile or at home, etc, i also noticed that Vista was FAR more stable too.

Its also got a LOT more features than XP ever had. the networking extras DO make a difference. the mobility features ARE nice and DO make life easier than XP could ever hope to be, even with addons. the encryption of bitlocker, and the security and peace of mind of complete pc backup are just enormously useful and work like a charm.

the Aero effects, and the way the search and the start menu are set up, the way the files work, the disk management features, all of it make Vista TONS better than XP ever was, again, even with addons.

And it IS faster, smoother, more reliable, and safer.

I wont ever go back to XP either. my laptop LOVES Vista, and it plays so much nicer than XP ever did with my Laptop. as you can see by the my sig, the laptop is a pretty nice little rig. is it the fastest and best out there? not even close, but its still a great little rig too, and with Vista it is so much more fun and so much more useful.

I love Vista. I really do.

You know, i had Vista sitting on my desktop at home in my room since about february. I got it, and there it sat. I had heard all the rumors, and frankly they worried me enough to put it off and just not do the install. even as a dual boot, i didnt trust it enough to try it.

I had heard about the ram usage, CPU spikes, driver problems, messed up installs, lack of compatibility with software, etc.

To this day, i have been running Vista for about a month and a half. I have YET to have a single: driver problem, crash, BSOD, software incompatibility issue, or glitch.

One more thing. i got this laptop with XP home, with minimal media support. Now, with Vista Ultimate, I have Windows Media Center, and it is awesome! needless to say, I'm a pretty happy guy.

Now, im used to having XP Pro on the desktop and on all the computers in the labs at school. so im pretty familiar with all the forms of XP and i have seen them all in enough detail to know them and how they stack up against Vista. THIS IS JUST MY OPINION, but i like Vista a lot better. Vista was, to me, a worthy upgrade. the only thing i really regret, is being too dumb to try it out and findout for myself if the rumors were true or if the product would stand on its own. The Truth is, it stands on its own two feet and does really well.

As its been out there longer and longer, there will be more and more drivers. a buddy had a prob with no creative logic drivers, so he un installed. two weeks later, the drivers are out. lots of people had problem installs. again, i fail to see it. it was easy and the most user friendly install of ANY software ive ever done. i really was impressed.
The features of Vista in general, especially ultimate (for a laptop) are really worth it.

Just my $0.02 on Vista, but its all from first hand experience USING VISTA, for a fair amount of time, too.

i do have ONE b#tch about Vista. My battery life isnt what it used to be with XP. that's OK, though, 'cause i have a car charger and two wall chargers, and an extra battery.

Is anyone running a tablet pc on Vista? How is is compared to XP Tablet Edition?
I like it it feels fine to me everything works fine except my webroot desktop firewall isn't compatible but thats the only thing that doesn't work for me other than that its been fine for gaming and my computer can handle anyhting i throw at it but yea its great looks great runs great its awesome I like it better than XP

whats are the differences between Vista Home premium and Vista ultimate?
anyhting special?
There is added wireless networking support included in Vista Ultimate thats not included in Home Premium. for instance, Ultimate has support for VPNs and some other little tricks and whatnots that arent in Prem. Also, the Bitlocker hard drive and virtual drive encryption and file encryption tools are not there in Premium as they are in Ultimate. Ultimate takes all the wireless and security of Vista Business, and Takes all the media center and media stuff from home premium along with Aero and the other goodies that Vista has in general and combines em. basically its like all the high points of Biz and Home Prem all in the same OS.

Since this laptop is a Biz computer AND my home/ play computer, i chose ultimate because i wanted all the functionality. And, i really am glad i got Ultimate. its awesome. does so many incredible things. and remember, my laptop came with XP Home, so its quite a step up for me. i will NEVER EVER go back to XP. Vista is the cat's meow, especially compared to XP.

Awesome Thanks for the helpfull info

When it comes right down to it, I liked Vista when I had it installed except for the driver issues. I will be returning to Vista once it has a service pack.. or two.. under its belt.

There were minor stability issues for me and some major driver issues. But a good portion of us remember what XP was like when it first came out, so I have faith that it will get cleaned up eventually.

I am planning on upgrading my desktop to Ultimate very soon. I tried a demo for awhile and it seemed to run really good except for the initial driver issues.
yeah driver issues are getting much better every day. Vista runs really really awesome! i love it. XP was not the most stable and i take great care of my laptop and do all the right things. it still wasnt that stable. of course it was XP home so what do i expect, i guess. Vista Ultimate has been a real godsend. truly takes advantage of and makes the most of my laptop. i really am impressed with it.

after playing with both for a while now, im quite surprised at the amount of drivers that have not been created for Vista; namely Creative holding off on proper drivers for Vista, it pretty much ruins my whole experience with bad sound processing :-(

on the other hand after the performance updates released "on the sligh" vista seems to be performing faster and more efficiently then XP Pro (at least for me anyway)

so once creative get thier acts together and give me proper support for my soundblaster, ill be happy and probably more fully over to the Vista

thanks for the reply all those who have its nice to get a overall feel for the OS and how peeps feel about it :-)
