im guessing the offer the 4cell to keep the weight under 4lbs so it can be considered a ultra light, the the 6 and 9cell up the weight, i believe the 9 cell jumps up to 4.7lbs

also a review on pcmag

i dont know much about draft N, but if i have the N card in the laptop, is it backward compatible say if i go to a hotspot that uses B or G?

Yes, absolutely. N cards are fully backward compatible with b and g. I have an N card in my M1210 connected to a b/g network.

How practical is it to spend the extra cash for the wireless N? I use g and so does my college campus

It's not really all that practical right now, especially since the N spec has yet to be finalized (this summer, supposedly). The N cards may see a physical design change based on the final spec. It IS only $22, though, so...well... the choice is yours.

Just be quiet dude. 3 Megapixels is 3.0 if you want to be technical. So is 2. If its not, why is it 1.3 or 1.5 megapixels then? Standard is denoted as whole numbers or the like. A 3 megapixel is NOT 0.3. I don't give a rats ass if its svga, vga, quad vga WUXGA, blah blah blah. 3MP is 3.0

well actually dell themselves list the LED backlit one with a "0.3MP" camera...

Optional:
LED - backlit 13.3" UltraSharpTM WXGA display with TrueLifeTM (available with 0.3 MP camera

so there it is... yes the LED backlit one has a not so great webcam.
Something is fouled up. Typo maybe - but 0.3 makes no sense at all - unless its one crappy ass cam. Which makes sense. Never seen a .3 cam before tho.

I have been anticipating this laptop ever since i first saw the leaked pictures on-line. But to be honest, i am somewhat underwhelmed by what has been released today.

I must admit, the machine looks beautiful, certainly an improvement on my M1210.....but after that, the benefits start getting to be hard to pick out.

The SSD hard-drive option is great....but at just 32gb, and at a premium of over $300 it's hardly worth making the technological leap at the moment.

The screen is an inch bigger, and has the LED backlighting option.....and true this is at a cost of only the worsening of the webcam quality. But sadly, no resolution upgrading.

I know that this is not technically necessary in a 13.3" screen, you will all say....but then if that is the case, and resolution is not much of a factor, in that you won't be playing games on it or watching high-def material....then what is the great advantage to the graphics card performance or the slide-out remote control.

Then there is the Santa Rosa chipset......which i still don't fully understand in laptop form....as i have read here the Ram speed does not reach the same capabilites as the chipset, and it is also stated elsewhere that when putting in the faster Ram (800) into this system, it simply only uses it at a slower rate. Also, since vista 32-bit only supports 3gb of ram, how much more can we get out of the more memory if the speed is the same as before.

As for the weight, it is great to see that it is under 4lbs.....but this is with the 1hr battery-life option.....making it somewhat of a marketing gimmick. The 9-cell on the other hand, weighs an extra 0.8lbs, coming in at just about the same weight as the M1210.

And indeed, the HDMI port is a worthwhile addition.....but then at this point it has to be said, that this would be entirely more useful if the machine had a Blu-Ray or HD-DVD drive. And i know that this woould be too expensive to implement right now (much the same as a 60gb SSD drive), but then it begs the question if this is the laptop which is a step in the right direction, but just too soon.

Knowing me I will still end up getting one....(it sure does look sexy in pearl white). But at the moment i simply can't justify the price versus what i have to gain over my M1210. Oh well, here's hoping you all can help and convince me to part with my hard-earned cash!

Either way - lots of misinformation out there.

You are very rude, and also very wrong. I never said a 3MP is 0.3. I said 0.3 = 0.3MP. Megapixel = 1,000,000 (1 million) pixels. 0.3MP = 0.3 million pixels, or approximately 300,000 pixels (640x480 = 307,200 pixels)

And yes, you have heard of 0.3 MP cameras. There's one in the XPS M1210 right now.

So please STOP misinforming people.

The CCFL screen has a 2.0MP camera, and the LED display has a 0.3MP camera. End of story.

Not trying to be rude. I just never heard of 0.3mp unless that camera is one shitty camera. Can you honestly tell me you heard of 0.3mps ?? I don't think you can either. 99% of us have not. If more than that have, I would be suprised. My apologies for being rude - if I was.

Sorry, yes the one in the M1210 is in fact a 1.3MP, but I run Skype in 0.3MP mode, i.e. 640x480.

Anyway, no hard feelings. Really the camera is just fine. I had SEVERAL 0.3MP cameras for my desktop, as many Logitech webcams were 0.3MP. Actually, I think I had even less than 0.3MP at one point, as one of my cameras was a 320x240 resolution camera!

Let's all relax. After all, we all know we just want an XPS M1330

Congrats! What is the expected delivery date? (As if you are having a baby. . . )

I suspect a lot of us will be dying to hear first hand reviews from forum members like yourself.

Expected ship date: 7/29/07. Expected delivery date: 7/30/07. Spec: Tuxedo black (LOL) T7500, 2.2Ghz Core 2 Duo LED display with VGA 0.3MP cam 4GB DDR-2 667 200GB 7200rpm Geforce 8400 Biometric reader Bluetooth/Wifi 4 cell + 9 cell 3 year warranty with accidental --------- Can't wait. OH, and this is from the Notebookreview forums. Apparently the reviewer was wrong and the excellent webcam he was referring to is INDEED the 0.3MP (as we suspected). Here's a quote from here: http://forum.notebookreview.com/show...=134513&page=6 "In all honesty we were surprised that the webcam in the M1330 wasn't a 2-megapixel camera. We thought it was at first since the image quality is MUCH better than any other low-resolution webcam we've seen in other notebooks. We'll go into more detail about the camera in the final review, but I certainly wouldn't hesitate to get an LED screen with the lower resolution camera."
