Question About Upgrading Averatec 3250

Thread Starter
I have an Averatec 3250 w/1GB RAM and 60GB hard drive running Windows XP Home. I would like to upgrade it if possible, specifically I want to know if I can switch out the matte XGA screen and put in a WXGA brite type screen (Averabrite I think is the "brand name"). Are they interchangeable if it's the same manufacturer? How difficult is it to switch out?

The other thing I was looking at was upgrading the hard drive to 120GB and maybe switch out the optical drive to a DVD burner (It came as a DVD-ROM/CD-RW combo).

I just spent $70 on the new RAM chip. I didn't want to spend more than $300 to do this upgrade. Spending much more than that and I would probably be better off just buying a new computer.

Am I spinning my wheels here or does this sound possible? Where would be the best place to get these parts?

Thanks.

I bought a Kingston 1GB PC2700 DDR RAM Chip from Circuit City (on sale for $69.99!) based on another report that I read that although they can't "certify" it, the 3250 can accept 1GB if it is Kingston or Crucial. They won't say if it's compatible with anything else.

Yes, I know that it states that the motherboard will only accept 512 but I put the 1GB in mine and it recognizes it just fine! It sure helps speed things up, too, let me tell you!
