No. ATI sucks. Sorry to disappoint you, but I would definately return/cancel the order.

well if thats the case, is it possible ot buy the nvidia graphics card and install it, and if so, how much would it cost.

will oblivion even run on low graphic resolutions with the ati i currently have?
If you got the system through Ebay or something, I guess you don't have much of a choice but to use it, but if you got it through Dell, listen to my advise, and return the system, and order the new 1720 with nvidia card.

If you can return it, other choice you have is M90 from dell outlet, or Ebay. I got my system (my sig) from Ebay for 1450 brand new.

Other choice you have is upgrade the card via Ebay. I would go for 7900GTX or 7950GTX which will run you around 3-500 bucks, and a 130W power supply (4-50 bucks).

Lower end 7900GS should be around 2-300, and this card is very good with overclocking.

aight well thanks for the tip
is it easy to install a new graphics card and get rid of my ati? i've done it before on my desktop but i've never done it on a notebook

Search 7900GTX in E1705 for instructions.
let me be the first poster to actually answer your original question.
Yes, the e1705 you bought can "play" oblivion but you will have to turn down many of the settings to have decent framerates and the lower settings will not do what is an inarguably beautiful game justice.
Now jump to what the other posters were saying; the 7900gs can play the game at very good settings, not all on the highest settings but the game still will look very good and run well. The 7900gtx and/or the 7950gtx will run the game at pretty much the highest settings with good framerates and you will be able to experience all of the oblivion glory.

OS: Upgrade to Vista... must be an outlet unit

You can get a 7900gs or an FX1500M on ebay for as low as $150 nowadays

are those two cards (the 7900gtx and 7950gtx) compatible w/ the e1705 i bought? i was looking at them and they are built differently

and by the way, thanks for the continued advice

Like achilles said, search the 17" forum for 7900GTX in E1705, there are instructions there

You'll have to break something off to do the 79XXGTX. If you don't want to, go 7900GS and it'll be even easier.

Atwood answered the question the best here. Your system will run it, but not with all the goodies. I suggest the 7900GS for a quick and easy pop in.

I have the laptop in my sig and had some pretty bad problems trying to run oblivion. i ended up buying it for my 360 and calling it a day. good luck.

I run Oblivion on a 7800 go overclocked to 350 / 750 and it run 13 to 20 fps outdoors @ 1440 x 900.

If you change your video card yourself you will void your much needed warranty!

Really doesn't void anything if you don't break stuff.
