I just got done playing farcry demo for a hour and the cpu was at a constant 64c. I was playing the first two demo levels (outdoor environments) and was getting 25-30 fps... never dropped below that. this was in 1024/32bit resolution with nothing tweaked.

I wonder if i had 1gig of ram, would I have any better fps?

deadlok try it!

oh wow there is going to be a 64-bit version of far cry being released
and im reading around that 1gig of ram is the way to go for HL2 Doom3 and Farcry...

time to do another hardware upgrade bymyself on the lappy

the 64-bit version of farcry wont need a 64 bit os either
once the game loads up all the instructions are written for the athlon and will boost performance greatly

wow

I didi was around 35-37 fps, but i like use 1250x1024 or whatever is closest to 1400x1050 and its alot sharper tho the fps is 25-30 fps , still better to me tho

wowk ok i need to get 512mb more ram

coz i was gettig around 30 fps in 1024

ur about 5-10 fps better and in higher res!

no fair :/

i cant wait till 64-bit farcry is out, 30% increase in performance

so if were getting 30-40fps now we'll get like 50fps with 64bit!

i didn't see the brand specified, and also isn't the Far Cry that is released now already compatible with the 64 bit processor, i looked at the box and it had the AMD 64 sign on the back, just curious because if its not out yet i won't buy it

nevermind, was snooping around AMD's website and saw this which was very interesting:

"AMD64 technology improves performance for PC-based games by evolving industry-standard technology from a 32- to a 64-bit architecture. 64-bit computing allows video games to process and access more data than is possible with 32-bit computing enabling a more realistic experience with faster frame rates and larger, more immersive worlds. AMD64 technology is an industry-standard approach to 64-bit technology that combines innovation, simplicity, and foresight to deliver the next generation of gaming performance today. Future releases of Far Cry will contain a beta version optimized for AMD64 platforms. AMD64 technology gives you the advantages of 64-bit computing while preserving compatibility with existing 32-bit software so you can run the 32-bit version of Far Cry now and upgrade to the version optimized for AMD64 technology when it becomes available."

So basically its safe to buy Far Cry now and when the 64 bit version is released, you will be able to upgrade (better be for free) and you will take the advantages of the 64 bit program. Kick A$$

Sincerely

Sincerely, didn't you say you were able to get the cpu to run at 1600mhz? Those benchmarks are dreadfully low and the cpu-z Screenshot looks as if your processor is only running at 800 unless you were operating on battery power when you took that shot.
when the lappy is on battery it will go down to 800mhz, on my power scheme set to always, my core speed is at 2200mhz
post #117 of 248
Yes Deadlok, I obviously knew that or I wouldn't have made reference to it in my post. His Benchmarks are dreadful compared to other mitac 855 machines and take a look at his cpu-z screenshot that shows his cpu clock speed at 800mhz.

what are the other 855 machines getting in their benchmarks? honestly i havent seen any... the ones done over at anandtech and trustedreviews etc have only the 64mb 9600 card, while i have the bigger one...

when i ran cpu-z the computer does not need to go into full power to run that program so thats why you see its at 800mhz. my comp gauges its cpu speed depending on what program is being used...

if i ran farcry and alt-tabbed to run cpu-z my reading would show 2.2ghz full speed... heres a screen shot

and confirmed again using another cpu speed measuring program

yes the 3dmark scores is about 300 lower compared to a p4 3.4 sager, but thats because this laptop cant take advantage of pc3200 memory and its not dual channel.

nothing was tweaked to my system either, just installed the latest drivers...

gambayte had the same laptop and he tweaked his card using ati tools and got around 3000 in 3dmark03, but again i think that benchmark is biasd and doesnt really measure what the machine can do in a real gaming setting. the benchmarks are run on their own lil 3d renderings/engine

keep in mind the power of this machine isnt fully unleashed yet...

ie: 64bit os/games

30-35% performance increase
