Lock-Ups caused by Optical Drive

Approximately 50% of the time I'll load a DVD in the DVD+-R drive, I'll hear some thrashing and the computer locks up and won't respond. I then have to power off using the on/off button. This has happened with CD-R media as well as DVD-R media. Once I reboot, I'm able to then write or read to the media in the drive.

I called tech support at PCTorque, I tried uninstalling the drivers, and then let windows reinstall new drivers but it still happens. The DVD-R drive is the Pioneer DVR-K12RA. I received the 8790 with winxp pro pre-installed, and had the problem out of the box prior to adding my own software.

Any suggestions?

I had the same problem when I set up my 8790 late last week. I installed xp home ( upgrade ). It would lockup at dvd usage. It did not happen after I had first setup the system. I had installed several apps several hours after setup. One of them was the Nero disk. I figured it was probably Nero so I uninstalled all Ahead utilities and have not had the problem since. I will install it one item at a time sometime to see if the problem returns. I suspect it was InCD that was the problem.

Doghouse I also determined that it was Ahead's Incd application that was causing the lockup. I uninstalled all of Nero, and then installed every program but Incd. The lockups stopped, and the DVD-+ drive works fine now. Thanks for your response.
