any difference between 2nd and 3rd gen Macbooks?

Other than the processor updgrade? I'm trying to decide between a 2nd gen black macbook with 2.0 C2D and a 3rd gen black macbook with a 2.16 C2D. If the only difference is the .16ghz more and slightly more HDD space, I think I would rather save a few hundred bucks and get the older model. However, if there are any differences in quality or battery life, then I would opt for the newer/better one.

Thanks.

I don't know of any difference. They didn't update the chipset, so battery life differences should be negligible. I would go for the refurb. Upgrading the hard drive and RAM in the MacBooks is incredibly easy.

only real differences are Base RAM, CPU speed and HD size.

other than that, same C2D as before.

The Core2Duo is much faster than the CoreDuo. So the .16ghz difference is deceiving. The core2's actually have an updated core.

the c2d are the same price in the outlet, no real reason to get the CD, unless you get a great deal

No need to be disrespectful. Check out this article: http://www.anandtech.com/cpuchipsets...oc.aspx?i=2808

depending on the application you are using will you notice the difference between CD and C2D

What people are neglecting is that he is trying to decide between a 2.0GHz Core 2 Duo and a 2.16 GHz Core 2 Duo. They are both Core 2 Duos, the difference will be negligible.

The differences between the 2nd gen and 3rd gen (though it's more an upgrade rather then another gen) is like everyone pointed out is the incease in cpu speed (.16 will not be noticable) and hard drive size. What people didn't mention is the slight increase in the superdrive 6x up to 8x.

Why someone mentioned the CD's i don't know. This thread is about comparing the newer 2.16 macbooks and older 2.0 macbooks.

am i mistaken when I think they have always been 8x superdrives?

No I am fairly certain that the early MacBooks and even the MacBook Pros had 4x and 6x drives.

Ok. I found that they are identical except the slight boost from 2.0 C2D ro 2.16 C2D, a slightly larger HDD from 120 to 160 and went from a 6X to 8X superdrive. I can save about $400, by buying the 2nd gen so I think it's worth it.

^^Yes I agree as well
