off topic: ATC7... the Meizu M6 is an ipod clone. haha...wow. i must be blind b/c i see 2 completely different players. the ipod is a DAP...hdd based and all. the nano is SMALL and THIN. the M6 is rather wide with a large screen, but thin (M6s is almost as thin as the nano) and if anything is meant as a direct competition for Cowon D2 and iriver Clix2. Different market segments , completely different designs (yes....there are only so many shades of white and black out there).... the scroll "box" if anything is closer to the Creative Zen Vision:M than the ipods scroll "wheel".... point proven.

back on topic:
if i happen to come across one, i'll play around with it....but at the thought that my SE V802 is larger than i'd like for a phone, to keep an iphone is just stupid. need something small.

And as abf is quite fond of pointing out there are MP3 players out there that have FM tuners and microphones and bigger screens and can play every audio format in the world while cooking dinner and giving you a blowjob at the same time; but I'd still rather have an iPod.

And since the iPhone uses a full version of OS X on it I give it a month, two tops, before someone figures out how to load software on it.

Catch is the iPod won't play FLAC, or OGG, which I use for my audio files quite often and have no desire to hold 15 other formats for it EDIT: Funnily enough, everything short of the cooking and blowjob on that list is on my n800 now that you mention it The rest of this edit I will be PMing you as it doesn't apply here I suppose

Quite possible, then again it is much easier when the people providing it just plain out INVITE you to do so Thing is, I can't think of a single thing on the iPhone that is actually innovative. In fact compared to some things I consider it a huge step back. That is why I maintain it is entirely overhyped. It is being advertised and harped on by major tech blogs etc so much it is ridiculous, for something that is an overpriced smartphone really, that you can only get through AT+T, is not subsidized, and really the only plus I can think of is the price of the data plan which is only 20 bucks for unlimited. Heck arstechnica(And they are not the only ones) is freaking ridiculous about it right now, posts about the crates arriving in the US, posts about the lines, heck I could probably take a dump and get a post on it as long as I happened to be near an iPhone. Overhyped I maintain. Seablade

so i went down to AT&T to take a look at the iphone, stood in line for about 20 minutes.. me and the guy behind me in line (the last guy in line btw) were just planning on looking at one, not much chance of buying... so me and him are let in the store.. which finishes up the line... ask him to see an iphone, and he tells me that they have NO DISPLAY models at all... only sales, and if i wanted test one out, i would have to buy one.... AT&T.. when my contract has expired.. you have lost my business.....

I totally agree that it's much better to write software when you're invited to do so. I honestly can't believe that the iPhone is closed to third party developers save for those who want to make web apps. Seriously, since when has a programme on someone's phone actually crashed the system? That is the excuse they offered for the lack of 3rd party development. Absolutely ridiculous.

And, I agree about all the blogs and news sites covering it, as I said in my reply to your PM. All of the tech sites I read are RSSed to my Livejournal and every day for the past two weeks I've found myself scrolling past post after post about the iPhone and it's become annoying. But, as I also said in my reply, it's not Apple that's overhyping the thing, it's everyone else.

As far as it being over priced, however, most smartphones are around the same price. My brother was looking at one that was 400 and he figures that an extra 100 isn't that bad if the iPhone is as good as it's supposed to be, and I agree with it. It might not have all the features but it has all the features I want and I don't feel too bad about paying more when I'm paying for quality. Otherwise I wouldn't be a Mac user.

Plus it's sleek and slim and small and has an incredible interface...that right there is worth a lot to people.

If I had the money, I wouldn't be one of those people waiting in line for a week to get one, but I would definitely get one.

Thing is, those smart phones tend to get subsidized when signing a 2 year contract, the iPhone on the other hand is not.

And this I think is part of, or possibly even the majority of the reason that.. A) I am pretty bitter about it B) I will never want one really. I agree the excuse is a rather large joke. To give an example(And yes I know I am digging it back up, I apologize but it is a perfect example)... The n800 I have is bluetooth tethered to my phone. There is only so much filtering that can be going on on the data connection seeing as how I haven't found a service I couldn't use yet. The n800 also obviously has a LOT of user written software on it, not all of it the best quality. I have not yet heard of any instance of a n800 crashing a phone system, be at AT+T, Verizon, Sprint, whoever. And while the tech sites are in fact the ones overhyping it, Apple certainly isn't going to do much to stop that, they love the publicity. I had more to say on this topicc, but at this point I think I will just sit and watch it likely happen. Seablade

I'm not arguing with that, those were straight from the site I linked but it is a well known fact that the Chinese company, Meizu, is known to have copied apple before, at least in styling and design cues, and continues to do so.... look at the Meizu Music Card (nano rip) and to say that the Meizu M8 is a blatant iPhone clone is the understatement of the century.

Do you own stock in Meizu or something?

i have heard that it is common practice in alot of Chinese companies to reverse engineer and/or reproduce variations on popular US and European products.

ATC7.... i @ you. there are only so many designs a small mp3 player can have. again, it has the scroll pad (as does Creative ZVM, and basically most other Meizu players), the shape is reminiscent of the nano for the simple reason that a small player can only look so much different from another small player and still be a smart, easy to use, and pocket friendly lay-out. seriously. and no i don't own a Meizu. I am a former irivier, and current Cowon owner. Mind you that both of my players are better than any ipod ever made...but that is besides the point.

Back back on the iphone/M8 thing... whereas the M8 is still in development Meizu recently released pictures of the new changed (cosmetically) model which has much less resemblance to the iphone. again.. there are only so many ways you can design a smartphone where you only have the speaker, microphone, and screen on the front face (no buttons). Human anatomy requires that for comfortable use the speaker is on the top (where the ear is), and the microphone is on the bottom (near the mouth), and so the best place to put the screen is between the 2 to create the needed gap between the mic and speaker.

OK, we'll have to just agree to disagree here but first...

hmm...Are we talking about the same thing here? This is their music card, also known as a nano rip.

and a close up of the black version (they couldn't just copy a white one of course)...

About the iPhone...

That's a little more than placing the ear piece where the ear sits.

The M8 (familiar, hey?)

Sell that stock man.

thats the picture of the OLD design, it has been changed since. firmware aside, the M3 looks nothing like a nano.

this is what an ipod rip looks like:
