Same here. I crammed 2GB into my Acer Aspire 3680 but that stupid Celeron 1.6ghz really is a draggggggg. Somebody out there has to have some kind of advice regarding a processor upgrade.

The 3680 seems to have the Celeron M 420.. a derivative of the Core Duo and using Socket M.

If this site is to be believed (yea I know not the exact same model, but its a 3680 and likely to use the same motherboard), the chipset is an Intel 940GML. This unforunately supports only the Celeron M chips. You won't be able to use an Core Duo or higher.

Ok thats fine with me, I didnt plan on upgrading to a Core Duo anyways.... Can we upgrade it to a faster Celeron M? There has to be a faster one....

Celeron M architecture chart from Intel. The 2 GHz 450 shares the same architecture (as the 420). Worth a look?

Sorry to be a kill joy, but I got a reply from ACER support that the internal components of the 3680 cannot be upgraded, sound, video, cpu.

That is just bull-, they don't want to be blamed if you mess up your computer.
If the CPU is not soldiered in (which most aren't these days), then you can take it out and replace it.

Tag - your the guinea pig Do it and let us all know how it pans out. In the meantime, Im hanging in here with my Celeron M520.

Celeron M chips and Pentium M chips are very similar and the only difference is the cache memory size. I upgraded my TM2434 from Celeron M 380 to Pentium M 745 and have used for a month without any problem.

I doubt you can upgrade it to Core Duo even though they use the same socket. However, upgrading from Celeron M to Pentium M is totally possible.

You gotta use the same FSB though. (400Mhz for 400Mhz and 533Mhz for 533Mhz)

I don't have this specific model, but I've done it on my 5672 as well as many other laptops. No problems.

as you all should know, most acer 3680 models with the celeron m430 and up have the intel i943gml express chipset. these boards are able to accept up to a core 2 duo 5300 or any other mobile c2d that supports 533mhz FSB. I'm replying on my acer 3680-2682 with a t5200, it runs circles around the celeron m440 that was in it. but the feign of heart need not apply... this mod includes almost completely disassembling your acer, because you have to lift the heat pipe to get the processor off the socket, and as is the case in my acer, the heat pipe runs first, over the processor, then over the gma950 graphics, then off to the top left corner, so it kinda snakes around the MB. But ONLY a 533mhz FSB c2d will work, no 667mhz, and mos def no santa rosa class chips(800mhz).

Thanks to Krazyphire on another computing forum, I did indeed upgrade my Acer Aspire 3680-2633 with the 940GML chipset to a T5300 1.73ghz duo core processor Im typing on it right now Loving it. Im not even able to put in words the HUGE difference. A total different laptop. Budget laptop no more! lol.
