iPhone - Page 8

The chances of me seeing an iPhone in my stocking this christmas just dramatically improved yesterday.

The iPod touch seems pretty sweet
Its basically in iPhone withouth the phone part.
Thus is will likely cut down on the desire to hack the iPhone.

Sounds like 4GB folks get hosed. Thoughts?
... i gotta say, im ticked off. but on the other hand if i break my 4gb iphone do i get an 8gb iphone?

I'm just glad you can get an iphone without getting the stupid phone. iPod Touch FTW

I'm also thinking about picking one up now as well. My contract w/ Verizon expired, and I really need a new phone. (my current one holds a charge for about 20 minutes of talk time ... it's just old and needs a new battery or something) I think I might take this opportunity to grab an iphone. It's still a bit pricey though, but definitely better now that it's 200$ smackers cheaper.

Skeletor I would look at something else if you need a SmartPhone look at blackberry, Blackjack, or Treo's? The iPhone is pretty crappy. I have spent some time using it and the touch screen ends up getting so dirty you can see anything, also l am just not impressed with what you are getting for the cost.

my 2 cents.

I might pick up the 8GB now that the price is (more) reasonable. This was the sort of thing I was holding out for...

Thoughts?

definitely more reasonable.

Well I broke down and bought one. So far not to bad. Trying to post this using the phone to get used to the keyboard. Some things seem laggy that should not be, but overall the browser kick butt so far. It appears that the bars that indicate signal strength goes from none to three in my aparent, which sucks. I gotta play arond with it to see if there is anything I can do to make it better. Anywho, just thought I'd try to post using the phone.

Well, Well, looks like early adopters may be able to get some moola back:

AMEX refunding 200$ under their buyer protection:

And Steve jobs may give you some money too ($100 store credit):

This iPhone is setting some scary trends!

It's really nice of AmEx to do that, but it's entirely unnecessary and unprecedented. We've all been the "victim" of early adoption or price drops. I bought a pair of running shoes a few weeks back and happened to be back at that store the other day and they were $40 cheaper. Should I get my $40 back? It's just a fact of most consumer goods -- especially electronics, that sometimes when you buy an item, especially a hot item, you're paying a time-of-purchase premium.

If I had bought the iPhone at $599 the day it came out, I'd be a slightly miffed that it's $200 cheaper about two months later, but if it's a good product, at least I got the use and enjoyment of it and, as matters to most early adopters, the "prestige" or "cool factor" of having something first.

People seem to forget that this exact same thing happened when the RAZR first came out...I don't remember hearing the people who first bought that clamouring for refunds.

I think i would rather contuine to whine about the price drop to get some $$. Any ways most americans are always conplaining about stuff.

Motorola doesn't have evangelical followers like Apple, however.

The Vatican has billions of dollars from it's followers...no one's complained that god has overcharged them yet.

They pay what they want. If you don't pay enough then your son has to be an altar boy.

Here's what I don't get: If you bought the iPhone last week at $600, then in theory and in practice, it was worht $600 to you. Apple lowers the price to $400. Is the iPhone no longer worht $600 to you?
The value of the product has not changed. Its exactly the same product it was a week ago.

Only feelings of the person who purchased said product at X time has changed.

In America, a person's feelings (or intentions) are valued greater than functinality, usefullness and results.

A person may feel stupid about their decision to buy last 2 weeks ago, but that does not mean that person is stupid. They made a choice based on the information and desires they had at that time.

Lastly i think some of the early adopters are more upset at the price drop, not because they personally could have saved $200, but becuse owning an 8Gb iPhone is no longer an exclusive club of people who can afford a $600 cell phone.
I re-read my last post and it sounds a bit negative.
It was not ment to be.

I don't thing that value based on feelings is necessarly all bad.
If everyting 100% functionality based then there is no fun in life.
iPhone is supposed to be part fun. Thats part of its charm. And thats why some will be miffed that more people can join the once exclusive fun club.

I don't think Apple purposly screwed people either.
They released the iPhone, then later decided that not enough people were going to spend $600 on a cell phone.
And before a compeditior can get a clone to market, Apple plans to capitolaize on their head start and fill alot of stockings with iPhones this christmas, thus the earlier than expected price drop.
People were snapping up plenty of iPhones at 600 dollars. But Apple wants more than money with the iPhone; they want market share. And not just to stave off the clones.

They probably made back most, if not all, of the money they spent making the iPhone when it was at 600 dollars a pop. But now, what with the huge success of the thing and the holiday season coming up...what better time to lower the price and start seriously building market share?
