Of course, if you only need/want your phone for making calls, why would anyone spend any money on a cell phone? You can get those for free.
Personally, I like being able to use my phone to locate where I am, check the traffic instantly where I'm at (to see if I should take a surface street instead when the freeway slows to a crawl), look up where I can find some good sushi within blocks of where I am, return an urgent email from a client, listen to the latest news podcast while on the go, and respond to notebook forums posts. All in something that's barely over a 1/4" thick and fits easily in my pocket.
If it's out of your price range, I wouldn't get one. Fortunately, money's not much of an issue these days, so I get the toys I want that help me run my business and entertain me at the same time... that's what I get from
my iPhone. And I can write it off on my taxes.
Anyone that hates on inanimate objects like this kinda makes me wonder what's going on... it's a really odd thing to get so worked up about.
Or were you just being silly? That's cool too, but it's hard to tell.
