iPhone - Page 3

iPhone = crap. It doesnt work on 64 bits XP or Vista: http://www.engadget.com/2007/06/30/i...or-vista-oops/ And here's a nice list of disappointments: http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?t=1190824

First impressions? Disappointing... Here's the short list: 1. Bluetooth is ONLY good for connecting a headset. That's it. 2. There is no file browser on the device at all. Data must be organized (if at all) in the appropriate application. 3. The camera is a simple application that has ONE button: the shutter. Pictures come out okay on the device, but nothing too fancy on a monitor, especially if it was an attempt at a macro shot. 4. SIM card is damn near impossible to open, if at all. I didn't look into it extensively. 5. Web browser is slow, even over WLAN. Even the simple OneList web app that was created takes around 20 seconds to load over WLAN. You can not highlight, cut, copy, or paste and text from a website, and you can not save any images you find from a website either. The only nice thing about it is the tabbed browsing, which crashed on me when I went to Engadget and YouTube on two tabs. This is the only application that allows you to use the keyboard in landscape mode. 6. The keyboard sucks. It gets slightly better after the iPhone "learns" you, as the employees said, but even then, it's not a device you can use with one hand comfortably, much less without looking. 7. You can only send one picture at a time in an email. 8. No custom ringtones (yet, as we were being told) and the alert tones can not be changed whatsoever. 9. The default ringtones are incredibly lame. 10. The only form of customization outside of a lame default ringtone is the wallpaper, which you'll only see when you need to unlock the device or when you get a phone call. 11. "Picture pinching" or using two fingers to zoom on any content is certainly fun to play with, but not practical whatsoever. This operation depends solely on using the device with two hands. 12. No document editor or native viewer. You can not store documents on the device to be viewed, they can only be viewed as attachments when they're sent to your in an email. 13. Visual voicemail is laggy and reacts about the same way as pushing the fast forward and rewind buttons on traditional voicemail systems. The only advantage is for those that get that many voicemail messages a day that they need to sort them according to priority. 14. NO games. None. 15. No voice dialing. 16. No speed dialing (which can be made up by the "quick list", but getting to that quick list isn't as fast as holding a single key on a real keypad). 17. No video. 18. No MMS. 19. It's still <4GB for $500 and <8GB for $600 20. It only takes around 2 hours to explore every menu without any options for expandability except to scrounge around for new web apps that will load slowly and nowhere near as smoothly as the native apps. This device looks like it was aimed at the general consumer who has the money to spend on such a flashy device, but it leaves so many basic features behind that it's almost impossible to consider it a success as a mainstream device. It encourages the advanced user to move away from MMS and into email to send images, but leaves out any advanced features advanced users would be accustomed to, and still retains a huge price tag on top of it. It's certainly pretty and Americans will buy it because of that simple UI, but anyone who's familiar with other operating systems would be appalled. This phone needs to be unlocked and cracked WIDE open to make much better use of the multi-touch system. That, or it needs an immediate update in iTunes to rework every feature.
----- Seriously, no games? No MP3 ringtones? No MMS? No voice dialing? There are several other cell phones in the market that are MUCH better value / money than the iPhone...

Meh, you're more or less correct. But you're forgetting that people don't buy things because they are the best thing for the money, they buy them because of the overall appeal.

Sure, I'm not proposing we should do a cost benefit analysys of every mobile phone in the market, but come one, paying 500-600 bucks for a phone that doesn't have a single game? An IPOD PHONE THAT DOES NOT HAVE MP3 RINGTONES?? W-T-F!!

So over the past week ive seen many many articles why you shouldnt get one...it came down to this...

Ive owned a Samsung i730, a treo 700w a blackberry and many other phones with similar features...none of them were
1) able to surf web pages without re-formating the page to something so scaled down it was useless
2) Sync with my computer (pc or mac) without 3rd party add ons and extra cost programs (I dont use outlook/exchange)

The iPhone does both with no issues...its that simplicity that makes the difference. Also I HATE windows moble. I dont like using as OS that will crash in the middle of calls. And say what you will I know countless people whom this has happened to..weather it a Q or black jack or treo. I dont need games, ringtones, MMS ... I need contacts, calendar and email..and them to work well...

Was it expensive...yes...is it worth it...completly...is this phone for everyone? No.. its not...if you have a phone that does what you want then you dont need this...simple....

My phones didnt do what I wanted...now it does..Im also all mac...no windows so it was a no brainer on that end to.

just my .02 cents

Oh and if the NSA wants to listen to my calls...let them..they really are not all that interesting...quite boring actually..

Start talking in hebrew when they monitor your calls and they'll take an interest on you. Just to give them something to do.

1. Get Opera Mobile
2. Because the iPhone can't run 3rd party apps!

Sorry, when a phone is supposed to be the best "smartphone" and it doesn't have a file browser, allow you to add or remove files or even allow you to send files via Bluetooth, this "smartphone" is not the best. It lacks many basics. It's most certainly not a smartphone. It's a more advanced "dumb" phone, and even then it lacks basics that most others phones have. So yeah, all that for $500 or $600! Woo! You can't even customize anything

I also read the 4GB has more like 3GB free and 8GB is 6.7GB

Does your iPhone purchase have anything to do with you being a fanboy? I see the list in your sig and formed a conclusion.

completely...after dealing with windows for 15+ years in the corporate and academic world making the switch to mac a year ago has been nothing short of great. Fanboy aside.. I dont need to browse files on my phone..and all those 3rd party apps on the win mobile phones were 1 of the reasons it crashed all the time. Im fine with the apps on it...does EXACTLY what I want a phone to do...again...i said this isnt the phone for everyone...but it is 100% the phone for me...contacts, address book, calendar, web browser...its all there...and you have to admit...the UI is damn nice looking...

not to get off topic but there comes a time where you just want simple...just want things to work they way they are supposed to work...I no longer have time to fool with an OS to get a game to work or to bit torrent the latest X. (Kids will do this to ya). Ive been there...had a dell 9300...ripped that bad boy apart...added the nvidia 7800, upped the processor...etc...loved it...now...i just need to power whatever im using on and have it work...this the iPhone and my Macs...

I love the posts that attack someone for the products they buy. As if none of you have ever made an purchase based on personal preference alone... oh wait, that's how we buy most of our stuff.

Fanbois on both sides are advised to chill. See Mattel, Inc. v. MCA Records, 296 F.3d 894, 908 (9th Cir. 2002) ("The parties are advised to chill.").

All I can say is go to a mac store or ATT store and check it out... May not be worth buying for you but def worth giving it a look at...

Well it is an Apple product...
I am certanly not an apple fan boy, ( disclamer, I may be heading that way in the future though)
In defence of the iPhone i should remind you its a version 1.0 product.
If they crammed every feature on the planet into this version it would not have made it to the market when it did.
Apple has always sided on less featurs and more stability.
That does not mean people should not complain, i say Complain loud about the features you want most, that way Apple will know where to spend their resources.
Most of the complaints in Flippo's Top 20 complaints can be solved via future software updates.
