Is my M1210 overheating?

I started to suspect something was up when Titan Quest randomly "slows down" when I'm playing it. I use i8kfangui, and it said my MAX temperatures are as follows:

CPU: 88C
GPU: 87C
Memory: 71C

Now I don't want people telling me that their CPU or GPU don't go above 40C when they check their temperatures AFTER they quit a game/alt+tab to desktop. My temps drop about 30C the INSTANT I quit a game, so you really need a monitoring tool to check temps.

So, can anyone who runs i8kfangui tell me what their MAX temps hit? If mine are outrageous (they seem to be...), I'm going to get on the horn with Dell.

And yes, my fans are clean and everything looks fine.

Thanks guys!

Isn't it bad for RAM to get above 70ÂșC?

And also, it's weird that you say the temperature drops "instantly" as soon as you quit. This seems to defy the laws of heat transfer. Can you try MobileMeter and see if you get the same results?

Roger that. Getting the motherboard and "cooling system" replaced in a few days.

Thanks all.

This tends to lead me to believe that all M1210s just get darn hot. I certainly don't believe tat 66C is the hottest it will get since even my M1710 hits 65c CPU at times. But I guess I'll find out soon when bits and bobs get replaced!

I used to have this temp before I called DEll up for a Sink and fan replacement. Upon replacement I realised that the fins of the fins have been fully clogged by dirt. So you might want to give it a go by opening up your M1210 and take a look at it.

I shone a flashlight into the fans etc, and can't see a speck of dust anywhere.

When I cleaned mine, you couldn't see it either, but I found dust bunnies between the fan and fins Also, check to see how much paste Dell put on...they have a tendency to use too much. Replace the CPU paste with AC5 and you should see a good decrease in temps.

Thanks for the tip. We'll see how it goes...

my M1210 idles 40C, and at full loads never peaked more than 60C.

Second I read this I remember I had the same issue. Infact I got an entirely new heatsink and fan replacement. But I have to say that the dust is literally hidden in there somewhere towards the back. Dug out what I thought was gigantic ball of dust. An it was.

http://www.t4k.org/showthread.php?t=15 <-- the super crispy temperatures.
