hehe i had an issue with my xps 1710 , it had some overheating problems , wich resuted in minor airbubles underneeth the comp and the paint becoming loose and falling off.

so i call dell support and explain to them everything.

and after some days of going back and forth , doing the support problem bullcrap , they say they will send me a new xps.

i just recieved my new xps , with i might say upgraded cpu gpu and memory

i just hope they dont come back for my old xps , cuz they havent asked for it yet

the meer thought of having an extra xps is

anyone have the same thing happen to them ?

will they ask for my old xps back ? =P

lol i have never heard of that problem before but id assume that they would want to check it out properly and would most likely want it back so dont go selling it or anything! Until then use it however you like i guess!

I have lots of parts that vendors dont bother asking back so you may get away with it! But then again im talking parts where you've got the whole thing! lol!

Inside the new laptop poacking there should be a return shipping label

But I would be surprised if they do not ask for it back

also i asked them when i was telling them my issues with the xps that would i have to send it back or would someone come to pick the old xps , but they didnt answer that and just said , they would send mem a new xps before 6/7 2007 ... =)

I'll take your old XPS off of you if they don't ask for it back.

did you open the plastic shipping label on the outside of the box?

If you don''t return it I believe their policy is to place the warranty you have on hold until the merchandise is returned. Don't quote me on that though.

I missed the punchline!?

My guess is you did not get a return slip for the old XPS to return it. If you don't return the old one, Dell will charge you the new machine at their retail price (that's why you see the replacement invoice on your dell account online), which you will not find so funny.

They cannot legally charge you for it without your concent. They can send you a bill for it, but they cannot add the amount to an existing charge card or dell account. I believe the only thing that will happen is that Dell will void your remaining warranty untill the old laptop is received.

Sure they can. There is this neat legal construct called "implied consent", which applies here nicely. The OP should call Dell and ask them fo a return shipping label, unless he is interested in getting in trouble.

Yep, like Achilles said, they'll charge you for the replacement part in full and you'll be invoiced by snail mail. Only way you can get it cancelled (besides paying) is to either ship it back or give them a tracking number for that shipment. Happened to me with an LCD I got replaced and I forgot to return.

The same thing happened to a former boss of mine with with his Latitude. He was all bubbly for weeks about his free laptop until Dell contacted him and requested payment or the old laptop. He wouldn't pay so they handed the case to a debt collection agency and likely damaged his credit rating a bit.

You might as well call them and ask them to send you the return label. If you do not return it you will be charged and flaged.

It just so happened that someone forgot to send the label and return directions with your replacement.

Just return it. Then you'll get a good conscience. =)

Actually ill have to agree with you guys. With something this big im sure they are going to miss something!

They won't miss a beat. They'll even bill you for a laptop keyboard.
