Switching out x1600 with 8600m?

Yes, this may be a stupid question lol but I've never seen the Macbook Pro internals so I really don't know how this would or wouldn't work.

But, is there anyway that the x1600 in the Core Duo Macbook Pro can be switched out for the Nvidia 8600m, the one currently in the new Core 2 Duo Santa Rosa Macbook Pro's.

lol don't laugh please :-P

Yep, so long as you buy an entirely new santa rosa logic board. The graphics card is soldered onto the board

not to mention i bet the 8600 from apple (which only place you could get it), even if it was seperate would be like 800-100$ probably.

screw it. its not a dell man

heh, and Dell in the past has tended to switch out the socket form factors for their modules, locking you into a certain time frame for an upgrade. beyond that, you'd have to buy a whole new system. maybe that's changed w/ the XPS systems however. Alienware is the only one I know of that seems to use a standard connector.

Is the GPU also soldered on like the CPU is?
