Quadro 3500m compatability issues

I recently bought a Precision m90. Here are the specs.....

Dell prcision M90
2ghz ddr2 RAM
512 MB Nvidia quadro 3500m
vista 64-bit business edition
17" (1920X1200)

DirectX 10 was pre-installed in the system. Now the problem arises when i change the power plan---most of the functions of the quadro 3500 gets shut down when i go for the "power saver" mode...screen starts flickerring when 3D applications are run---which is normal...but when i switch to high performance power plan, even when external power source is plugged in,the 3D functions of the card dont perform...i'll have to shutdown and restart in the "high performance" power mode for the card to work normally again, which is very inconvenient......if anybody has any idea of the cause of the problem, please let me know......

Hmn. I thought 3500M came with XP only. I could be wrong though.

By not only going to Vista, but to the 64bit edition, you are asking for trouble. Quite a few of the drivers are simply not up to par for the new OS. In addition, only very, very few people install 64-bit Vista, meaning NVidia will get next to no feedback and driver testing. My guess is that you will suffer for quite a while if you stick with 64bit Vista. Even the 32bit Vista drivers seem to still have plenty of issues.

When I bought mine, the 3500M was indeed only available with XP. Maybe they took the plunge, and ship it with Vista now. Looks like they may have taken that plunge too eraly, then...

Yup they did have the restriction for Vista .....but eventually they, as u put it" took the plunge" ,making me the scape goat....another thing---do you use Directx10 or 9.0c?? Because the 3500m was not supposed to be compatible with the "10" version.....but dell shipped it with Directx10 and i have my doubts eventhough dell keeps reassuring me about compatibility....

I am running XP, of course, so it's DX9.

No, it's 60Hz, for all LCDs, at least all laptops. Has nothing to do with resolution. Since LCDs work differently than CRTs, 60Hz is perfectly fine, for most people, anyway. Some uber-gamers want higher refresh rates for dynamic content, though. If this is you, get yourself a good old CRT.
