Instruction for Enable Sigmatel Stereo-Mix in All dell PC & Laptop...in Windows XP...

click on start, run, type regedit

go to the following path:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControl\
Control\Class\{4D36E96C-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}\0017\Settings\filter\rear]

Note: the path 0017 is for M1210 diffrent dell PC or Laptop may in diffrent path. Choose from 0000 to 00xx....or find the path filter\rear

In rear add two new binary value as follow 1 & 2, and modify the value of 3 & 4:

1 DigitalInputMonitor = hex:01 (Add Binary Value)
2 DigitalStereoMix = hex:01 (Add Binary Value)

3 MasterControlsIndependentMixerInputs = hex:00 (Change 01 to 00)
4 EnableInputMonitor = hex:01 (Change 00 to 01)

Then Restart Your Computer....Stereo Mix is now enable....

You Can Now Record Streaming Audio from Internet! & Audacity is now supported!

Please Download & install the Latest Driver from Dell before you do this, & don't install SB Advance MB. for some computers, they may have bad sound come out when playing CD or DVD after modified the regedit, there are two ways to solve 1. format your PC & install a clean windows XP, don't use dell restore. 2. change your regedit back to original when you want to play CD or DVD.

Here's a picture of my recording panel. It also shows that I am playing an MP3 with Winamp and recording with Cool Edit Pro at the same time. Finally, I can record audio from my favorite Youtube videos and use them as ringtones!

This is a modding for your sigmatel driver to allow you to record streaming audio from Internet & record from 'What You Hear" from your computer.

Try to uninstall all the sound driver from your laptop, include sound blaster advance MB if you have it, & reinstall the driver from dell site...(Sigmatel 92xx)...

Does not work on Dimension C521. Made the registry changes - still do not see stereo mix - can't record streaming audio from internet. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Works great on my 1505 although I had to add
DigitalInputMonitor
DigitalStereoMix
MasterControlsIndependentMixerInputs

the last one was there. And path was under 0018 for the 1505.

Works now on my Dimension C521. I got the latest audio driver from Dell site and then applied the changes to registry as suggested. Now I can see Stereo mix and record. Thanks a ton for your help.

Thank Matthew for the mod.

On my 1505E with Windows Media Center Edition, the path is 0005 for the SigmaTel Driver. I needed to add binary value "MasterControlsIndependentMixerInputs" to the Settings/Rear.

Hope this help others with the Media Center version.

UPDATE:

IMPORTANT!!! If you want to try this mod, be very careful. It corrupted my SigmaTel HD audio driver in the Media Center Windows XP edition. Found out when playing some music. A lot of distortion and noise and scratches which I know the CD does not have!!!

I hosed it by messing around too much. I had to reinstall the drivers. The newer Sigmatel stuff has a different registry tree (no more lineout dir under filter). I did get it to work again though. The new path is ....\\filter\\SpeakerHp. I can finally monitor my guitar in real time without splitting to an amp. Just rememeber to turn on "Input Monitor" in the "Levels" tab of the "Sound" control panel item. Thanks everyone.

Thanks for the pic... the input monitor is no problems, but how is Stereo Mix? did you get stereo mix on VISTA in the recording options?

once input monitoring is enabled, is there something you can unlock to get a slider for this? ive unlocked the monitor, but all I can do is mute or unmute it, I can't control its volume

Is there a solution to get Stereo Mix to work in STEREO (not mono) on a laptop... A Dell Latitude D830 with a Sigmatel sound card?

Your solution works fine on my Dell Precision, not on this Laptop
