I just got mines too yesterday. I was really surprised to see it at home since it barely shipped on the 11th. From first glance, it seems that Dell included a bunch of their preinstalled stuff onto the system. I ordered an additional gig of ram from newegg and that should be coming in today. I asked Dell to include a separate OS disk and drivers disk, so I will be doing a clean reinstall once the ram gets here.

Shipping via DHL:

7/12/2007 12:00 amShipment Acknowledged Nashville, TN

Should I be worried?
DHL is on my $hit list right now...took them 3 days to ship something "1 day air" last time - package sat on the DHL truck for 27 hours between the seller and their distribution warehouse

My 1520 finally arrived - YAY!

Will do a full review shortly...

Short snippet - it's a little bigger than my m1210 (basically my m1210 can fit inside the 1520)

Ran the Windows Experience Index - got a 4.6

My 1420 came today.
Ordered July 5/07
Shipped July 12/07

Arrived July 16/07 (missed the purolator guy)
Picked up July 17/07

I had ordered two 1420 notebooks (same specs) at the same time and the 2nd one still has not shipped!!!!!!!!!!

Initial thoughts:

Ordered the blue color. It is very dark. I really like it, was worried it would be bright.

Systems is very solid and looks really good. A bit heavier than I expected.

Runs very quite, although the DVD drive is quite lound when running a disk.

The screen is really nice, i got the upgraded option (WXGA+ TL LCD). Not too glossy and very crisp.

Not to impressed with the Hard Drive, Ordered 160GB drive: 10GB for recoverey, 136GB for main, 16GB used up with pre-install, so basically when turned machine on I have 120GB to play with (40 used up!!!!)

I have had a few problems trying to install some of my chemistry software on vista...but other than that so far so good.

Will post a review with pics soon.

Later

My specs:
1420/T7100/2GB RAM/160G HD/8400M GS 128

I've been pretty satisfied with the laptop and dell so far. After the system was ordered, I called in to make sure that the gig of ram was on one dimm instead of two dimms of 512 so that I can upgrade to 2 gigs by myself (this was before the free 2g ram and hd upgrade ). I also asked them to include an OS disk along with a drivers cd so I can do a clean install. After I received the system, I did see the cd's I asked for, but as soon as I tried to upgrade the ram, I saw that there were two sticks of 512 in there instead of the one stick I had called in to make sure it had. I called dell immediately afterwards, and the representative I talked to was very nice and sent out a free stick of 1g of ram at no extra charge and didn't even ask me to send back the other two sticks. After the clean install, the system is running very smoothly. I decided to keep the recovery partition on there just in case anything might happen in the future, but I did partition the rest of the disk into two drives, one for the OS, and the other for general storage.

how much hard drive space did you recover when you did the fresh instal???

also how musch HD space did you partition for the OS

thanks

I partitioned the rest of the disk into 30gb/110gb drives, with the 30 being the OS/programs disk. I'm not exactly sure how much was on the OS drive after the install because I've already started installing stuff onto it. I'd say there was a good 15-20gb left on the drive after the OS was installed.

I would like to know how many people have some weird fizzing noise coming from their sound card. When I put on headphones I hear a fizzing some small noise coming from the head phone jack. On the speakers you don't hear it. But on the head phone jack. Turn up the volume high enough you hear it. If you use the isolation headphone that came with the laptop you can hear it clearly. Some odd feedback is coming out. An from surfing around I see I'm not the only one with this problem.
