M45 - Epic power failure

Hi, everyone. My name is Bob, and this is my first post. Looks like a good forum, so I'm trusting you with my bewildering technical problem.

I was typing away on my M45 S2692 this afternoon, and had just saved my work (the only upshot to all this), when I got a black screen, and the sound of my hard drive clicking off and spinning down. I didn't get a low power warning or anything. I also didn't have any lights at this point.

So, I plugged in the AC adapter, figuring maybe I just had a software problem with my warnings. Well, no dice. I couldn't get a power light, and the power button got me nowhere.

I eventually discovered that if I pulled out the battery, then plugged in the AC adapter, and then put the battery back in, I could get the appropriate lights to come on. Some times, though, with the adapter unplugged, I get an AC light and a battery light, both blue.

After leaving the unit plugged in, with the battery connected, long enough for the amber battery light to turn blue (I was hoping this was some kind of super-low-battery bug, or something), I got the thing to boot, and stay on for 6 minutes, after which it crashed the same as before. I've gotten similar results, with varying uptime, a couple of times, but that 6 minute run was the best.

Nothing feels like it's getting hot, and nothing is obviously shorted under the easily-removed access panels on the bottom of the unit... My warranty is up, and Toshiba seems to recognize that there's nothing they can do over the phone. I'm out of ideas, and getting pretty frustrated. If anyone has an idea, a lead... anything... please help me. I'm losing it.

Thanks,
Bob

heat (try cleaning/vacuuming up around the vents 1st); hard disk failure (remove and test it from an external housing); ram failure (move the modules around if u have more than one)
