Acer Aspire 1712 with a Matshita UJ-820S DVD.

Every time i insert either DVD or CD the system freezes. Even when booting up with a CD/DVD in the drive the system freezes. Sometimes if i re-boot 3-4 times i can get the drive to work. Any suggestions please.
