I have been thinking about this for about a week and lurking around here gathering some information.

any thoughts ideas. i have a 15.4 now but not a wide screen . i would like the 17 but not sure if its too big?

price is a lil concern but when it comes to an investment its okay to spend more to get what you want i guess.

well im looking at the hp9500t $1613.00

as a rule of thumb i'd avoid HP/Compaq all together. their hardware quality is about the industry average, but their tech support, especially when you really need it is just absolutely horrible. for $1600 (price of that first HP) you can do much better... for instance one of those 17" sagers from pctorque. hardware wise you'll be around the same, better video (but only dx9 most likely)..and better support

hp takes over dell in personal computing area recently due to its attention to the products they r cranking out along with their support.
overall the whole laptop industry is moving forward with products and services
the laptops mentioned have good specs and prices, if it fits ur needs and do not burn ur pocket, why not
personal note/preference, i would stay away from integrated gpu card if/when possible

cheers ...

I would rather go w/ Dell 1720 (specially from Dell EPP site w/ 15%(from Ebay) off coupon). It will have better screen, GPU, and the most important 3 year complete care at about that price (16-1700 bucks).

I bought the HP DV6326US and I love it. it's a great machine. However, if I could take it back I would. I would get one with a smaller screen.
Maybe a 12 or 13 inch.

You did not say what all you intended to use this laptop for. For a potable entertainment PC, I would custom configure it with 17.0" WSXGA+ High-Definition HP BrightView Widescreen Display (1680 x 1050) and the 511MB NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GS. How ever if you ever want to run any operating system other than Microsoft or if you want to use the VT functionality of the CPU their Bios will not allow you to do that, and you should wait buy some thing else.

I think you can do better on the prices in general...

HP and Restore

Don't know if you've bought it by now. HewlettCompaq didn't bother to include restore disks for my sr2011wm. I'm hearing other manufacturers are doing same. I created 16 (count em!) cd's so I could have a backup when I upgrade to vista!! Vista somewhat didn't play nice or didn't work at all when adding address (A window, an X, NO MESSAGE!) So after going back to XP, i find that disk #9 will not complete.
My Point, If you're going to pay real money for a PC, ask for the HP restore disk BEFORE you need it, while it's under warranty.
My ze5604rs XP recently decided it didn't want to show me the all programs menu or allow me to enter any text into a yahoo search window. Do I have the restore cd??? NOOO. Does HP have it? The girl at thier help advised me to by the Microsoft retail ver. of XP. Pretty Sweet huh!

when buying form hp they have a special check box to have your lapop shipped with the os restore disk. i have a vista restore disk. One major thing is that the dv6500t special edition..... i didnt really see much difference between the dv6500t and the special edition. so i owuld go with the standard (i have the dv6500t) i love my laptop however the screen isnt always the best. it does have a very evident "perfect spot" ( i bleieve thats what its called) trying to work on stuff while im in sunlight is not easy. trying to play halo outside.... forget about it. i have one so yea. find one that you like though. its your money not ours
