Hi Gamezilla,
I am a new member of this forum, and I would like to know if it is possible for you to send me the service manual of Acer Aspire 5000 series by e-mail.
Thank you for your collaboration.
Best regards,

First off, why do you need to replace it? Did Acer tell you that because it doesn't charge anymore? or is there a really good reason?

Hi Fety, I really do not need to replace the motherboard, but the DVD Reader/Writer. The problem is that Acer does not recognize the 3 year warranty I have acquired when I bought my Acer in Canada. So now I decided to repair it by myself, as I not going to buy or use Acer services anymore. I have already the new DVD Writer, but it would be better to replace it with the service manual.

Hi everyone, I have just put in practice the suggestion Fety gave me, that was installing a new firmware, for this I have done the following:
First I opened the Control Panel of windows, Performance and Maintenance, System, Harware, Device Manager, DVD CD Rom drives and checked the DVD Rom type, that was an SSM-85155S produced by Liteon. Them I started searching on Internet how to update the firmware, and I found the answer at http://forum.rpc1.org/viewtopic.php?...r=asc&&start=0 where I found the links to download the LtnRPC to make the DVD RW region free to play and write and also ready to accept the Firmware from Liteon as the DVD RW is blocked by Acer in order that you can not upgrade the firmware --> http://dhc014.rpc1.org/LtnRPC/
Then I went to http://www.liteonit.eu/index.php?opt...per&Itemid=178
to download the newest firmware, after that I went to http://digi.rpc1.org to download the program to install the firmware, but it is only going to work with the file upx.exe that you can download at the same site. You can find the instructions there to use the program. Now everything is working fine.

YESSS!!!! AWESOME! Good to hear it's working!

See people?! This is the kind of users we need in this forum! People who aren't afraid to go out and Google their problems and figure it all out themselves.

Way to go machadosl!!!

That was news to me about Acer blocking the ability to update the firmware, such bastards they are!
