CPU only runs at 80% speed on battery, common? ze2308wm

I 'upgraded' my ze2308wm from stock Sempron 2800+ 1.6GHz to Turion ML-37 2GHz.

The Turion only runs at 1.6GHz / 80% on battery even on always on. It must be on AC to run at 2.0GHz.

Apparently it's such a power hog the battery can't handle it. Is this usual?

Not unusual. Its the way they wrote the code/program for those models. I'm sure you have seen other battery programs that give you the options of how to work on battery mode. I believe that Vista has that option. Remember that was a low end model so most likely they wont put all the attention to details.
