Question about battery life

I have a dell 9300 laptop with the 9 cell battery. What should I expect as how long the battery should last while just doing stuff like web browsing?

I'm trying to determine if I need to replace it or not before I send it off to college with my daughter. The unit is about 3 years old now.

Thanks,
Rut

Depends primarily on how old the battery is and what type of graphics card the computer has, since all processors and lcd's typically account for a large portion of power dissipated. If you are just trying to give your daughter a functional computer then sure this laptop fits her. This is not to say that the laptop is bad either, its just I am not sure what she would be using the computer for. Post some more specs and I can give a better answer.

This computer has the nvidia 6800 go card with a 1.7 g processor, 1g ram. She will use it mostly for surfing and doing homework and probably itunes stuff.

Well then, it should get the job done just fine but the battery may be a little old. You can see how long it lasts yourself to determine if you want to buy a new one or not. As long as you havent installed modded videocard drivers, that thing can get around 2.5-3 hrs I think

Mine gets ~2-2:30, though my battery only charges to around 80%
