I've been playing around with modding & overclocking laptops for awhile, figure I would drop into the desktop market again

mmm I wish I had that in my room right about now

Nice build, but I still think the Thermalright SI-128 is a better heatsink It occupies a good fourth of the real-estate of my side panel window.

lol I actually looked at that HS but did not think it would fit with the passive cooling system on the P5K.

That heatsink is a beauty! I'm considering it now for my next build There are better ones out there technically...but it's not like I'll be insanely OC'ing. Also, how's the noise out of it?

Come on sol...put in water and jack it to 4 ghz

Nice rig.

I'm considering buying that crazy looking CPU you cooler. It's huge! Did you mount it in any special way?

actually the installation was suprisingly simple, the fan is extremely quiet, and it's not as heavy as it looks. Just make sure you install it first lol. FYI it comes with thermal grease that is on par with AS5 & an applicator. It works quite well & keeps temps low.

Sweet!

Looks like you got some good results. A lot of people have been hitting ~3.80-3.85 with their Zalmans. Only way you could get a better air overclock is if you moved into full on dual fan tower or a tec cooler. Maybe we should just skip those and liquid, and throw in a vapo.

Really reasonable thing to do.

I had a TEC cooler go south on me once, it wasn't pretty. I found out that is was possible to bake thermal grease & the Athlon Thunderbird along with it.

I have it up to 3.85 stable right now. running 55c temps under ORTHOS so I am pretty happy with that. Running @ 144 % of it's rated speed so I am pretty happy with that.

IMHO it's one of the top heatsinks out there. You wil not find a bad review on the 9700 anywhere. THat & it looks damn cool

Wow nice rig Sol. i just purchased the XPS 410 in my sig and only thing I need to add is a new graphics card. I'm really new to desktops (been using lappies all my life) so if you get a chance Sol can you PM me and show me how to OC my proc. I think the clocks are lock n the BIOS (courtesy of Dell). The XPS 410 chasis is very well built and ultra cool. Can we see the pricing of all your components aso. Plus I got another question for you SOL. Do you think I should get the PNY 640MB 8800GTS for $330 or wait for the 8900GS to be released. Thanks again SOL.

I'm not sol of course, but I'll throw my idea in

You won't be able to OC' on you're system because you are using the dell board of course. Also, on the graphics I would suggest waiting to see what the 8900 series yields before upgrading. Any news of when the 8.9's will come out?
Also, Sol, I have my own question.

Obviously you don't have the same board as my Alienware does, but I was wondering how to overclock as well. My old p5nd2-SLI when I go into BIOS doesn't have any screen that allows me to adjust the CPU settings...am I missing something?

The 8900 is still a bit off & the GTS should be able to handle just about anything you can throw at it & reasonable settings.

As far as overclocking the 410, I'm not sure. If the PLL is public you can overclock through software (softfsb etc) You aren't going to be able to OC through the BIOS at all with an OEM machine like that.

Also keep in mind you have the stock HSF assembly, so even OC'ing through Windows would be limited. My motherboard is specifically designed for overclocking in mind.
