I loved Dells answer to this problem.
Agent (Shinjan_139858): "We will have to default the system BIOS and have to install the quick set driver."
Agent (Shinjan_139858): "If after doing these steps also the issue persist, then this means that the system battery is at the end of its usable life and you will have to purchase a new battery from our sales department."
Me: "why is that? I have an up to date bios and the latest quickset is already installed"
Me: "my battery life is just fine and only shows 13% wear. I still get over 3 hours on battery power"
Agent (Shinjan_139858): "Thank you for all the information."
Agent (Shinjan_139858): "Please confirm are you chatting from the same system which is facing the issue?"
Me: "Yes I am"
Agent (Shinjan_139858): "Okay."
Agent (Shinjan_139858): "Are we connected to the Internet using a Dialup connection (telephone line) or a High speed Internet connection? (Cable/DSL)"
Me: "I am on wireless right now"
Agent (Shinjan_139858): "Okay."
Agent (Shinjan_139858): "we have software available that would allow me to assist you remotely. If I have the permission, I can go ahead and guide you through the steps for downloading the same. Would you like to try it?"
Me: "and what would you be doing with this after I install it?"
Agent (Shinjan_139858): "Our resolution specialist is calling you. Is that fine with you?"
Agent (Shinjan_139858): "he will call you right now/"
Me: "ok that is fine"
Agent (Shinjan_139858): "Thank you."
And the someone actually called me, I was shocked, I usually have to wait days for someone to call me and sometimes they never do.
The rep that called me told me my battery was past it's usability and I would have to buy a new one. I told him I knew it was not a battery issue, that the only issue I was having was video playback. I told him that playing mp3's and browsing the internet and noting else cause the problem. To this he replied that he would have to call Microsoft because they have been having problems. I said Huh? He then said they would have to contact Microsoft to get me compensation for my problems, because they have been having so many problems with Vista. I laughed at this because he had already confirmed with me that I was using XP. He then told me I need to update my Bios and uninstall all my drivers and then reinstall all the drivers. I told him I just did all this. He told me that was all that could be done. I then hung up, because he kept insisting I needed to buy a new battery, even though my battery life is fine and only 13% wear and only a year old. He told me it will die in 2 days to 2 weeks.
