well here is my suggestion (VT can eat a lot of RAM) Wipe all the partitions, install XP, then go back & then install Vista & you will not have any problems at all. Installing XP after Vista is just a PITA.

thanks for the suggestions sol...

ok newber question....how do I wipe all the partitions clean?

I'm going to do a fresh install of xp and then install vista....

hopefully I won't screw this one up hahaha

well you can do it through XP setup when it askes you to select paritions you can wipe everything out into 1 hge unpartitioned space & then reparition it into whatever you want (of course you need 2 primary partitions for dual booting).

So usually a setup of 2 primary partitions & then an extended partition with logical drives ( how ever many you want) should be fine. how big is your HDD?

i have a 100 gb hdd (my 2nd 200gb hdd won't be in until later this week)

so how I do install vista after I installed xp? and what do you mean 2 primary partitions?

I guess I'll have re-read that stuff now hahaha...hope it works =P

You should boot with the Vista install disk after installing XP, you will be given the option to install to a different partition.

what I'm also thinking is that b/c I didn't delete the partitions on the hdd and accidentally installed xp over vista...the boot.(whatever thingy that xp has but vista doesn't) might have jacked up my boot up...

so once I get everything figured out, i'm going to "nuke" the other hdd...that's if it will recognize the other hdd when I install it...I'll keep everyone posted =P

no, b/c it will only come w/ a respawn for whatever OS you have on the hdd.

when you select the Respawn option, it comes w/ respawn on a CD as well as on the hdd...

so if you ordered your laptop/pc w/ vista * you used a xp respawn...it wouldn't work...& vice versa
