I regret to inform you that there is no available field service manual for this system. The Inspiron 1000 was a Return To Depot repair only system. On-site technicians did not work on this system, so there was no web based service manual created. What part are you trying to replace, maybe I can help? Regards, Dell Online Community Outreach

Most of the time my laptop wouldnt power on anymore, and when it does, it powers on to a blank screen... i just figured i would take a poke around inside since it's out of warranty anyways.

I have taken apart a Inspiron 1000 a couple of times and I can say that they are not that easy. An example of this is that the processor and heat sink or on the bottom of the motherboard. To properly inspect the entry system, the motherboard has to be completely removed. When the system does come up with blank, is it with AC power or battery power? Another question, when the system is sitting off with the AC and battery does it work the battery is charging? Regards, Richard B Dell Online Community Outreach

Hi Richard,

I don't know if you can still get this, but I have a dell vostro 1088 laptop that recently went off, and on turning it on, asked for my BIOS/administrator password. I went ahead and keyed in the password, and the next page asked for the system password, which I guessed was one and the same thing and to save the correct date and time, which I put down, and also went ahead and keyed in the same password. The next stage was now telling/showing me the order in which BIOS recognises whatever I save in my computer, which was HDD, then CDs/DVDs, the a USB disk,  but before I could do anything, the laptop went off. Since then, whenever I turn it on, it asks for the BIOS password and after putting that, goes off on its own.

What could be the cause of the problem and how can I solve it, since I can no longer access  my data. NOTE; i RECENTLY UPGRADED MY WINDOWS 7.

THANKS!

LUCIA.
