sup well I'm getting problems with my beloved 5680, I remove all batteries and when I want to start it without any batteries I press power button , and led goes off.. nothing.
Now the strange thing I'm suspecting either one of the batteries I got is gone bad, I got the battery on 1st bay with 1st 2nd led orange, I got the secondary battery on the extended bay as well, but it's not showing the led at all, now when I remove the first battery from the first bay I get 1st and 3rd led orange
like the batteries are in short with each other. but anyways I can't make the puter turn on without batteries, this is really strange , I tried removing the Cmos battery, switching ram , dunno what else.

There is a part that switches between the battery and the ac current. It sounds like yours is malfunctioning. Usually, this fails completely but yours seems to be partially working.

It is usually on the motherboard and requires a motherboard replacement, but in your case, it may be on the dc/dc board, which is actually separate (on thje 5680)

I'd email sager with your description and see if they agree. You can sometimes acquire these dc/dc boards through laptop parts places.

Gerry are you sure if I remove the battery the unit has to work on AC ? I read some units need primary battery working for it to work

Yes. I am typing this message on a 5680 with the battery on the shelf next to me.

damn I checked for dc/dc board and it says battery charging board, I think just manages on charging the battery that's all, is there any chance it could be some cmos issue or something? I got the hinge crack issue as well could that be shorting the unit I fixed it with a 2 compound material

5600 series (5600N, 5600P, 5600D, 5600DS), 5620 series (5620N, 5620P, 5620D, 5620DS) voltage regulator board (battery charging board), also compatible with part number 71-56P0C-D03A

Gerry can you tell me if you plug both batteries on it , if you get the 3 orange leds on ?

But, I believe the dc/dc board also handles the switching between the battery anbd AC current. So, if it fails, your laptop cannot switch between the two.

If the battery(ies) are in, the laptop works because the charger is charging the battery(ies) and you are running off the battery. The amount of electricty coming in through the charger exceeds the watts need to charge the battery, so your laptop works.

Remove the battery, and the dc/dc board does not switch to only power-supply and therefore you do not have a complete circuit--and nothing

I only have one battery so I cannot verify what you are saying
