So working in a computer store has some serious perks...

I work in a small computer store that does repairs, custom systems, and sells dells. We are overpriced, almost to a scary point, but we're the only game in town. My boss gets scary big discounts on dells.

Recently a man ordered an XPS M1710, pretty basic, he said he wanted dual core, 2gb of ram, and a 512 vid card.

We ordered one with a T7600G, a 200GB 7200RPm Drive, and a 7950GTX.

When it came in I swapped in a T7200, 7900GTX, and a 120Gb Drive.

I then bought the three above parts from my boss for $400 and upgraded my 1710.

I love my job sometimes.

If we ordered more than 2 or 3 XPSs a year, we would sell the parts, but sadly this town is dead tech wise.

The guy only paid for what he recieved, he did NOT pay for the 7600G and 200GB Hdd. He's also extremely pleased with what he got. My boss just got a deal he couldn't refuse on the system we ordered. So he made all his profit sellin those parts to me.

You know, you kinda screwed Dell out of some parts though. Should that guy need a replacement CPU or video card down the road Dell's going to replace him with a T7600G and a 7950GTX because that's what the SERVICE TAG says the system has.

Definitely not Kosher.

Everyone wins, expect for the EVIL CORPORATION DELL MUAHAHAHAHAH. Just kiddin, poor dell... poor poor dell.

If he has to send it in for repairs that could definitely cause some issues.

Yep, Dell no likey non-original systems.

You must have a small e/peen. Or a big e-peen and small regular peen.

Actually, we offer a local 3 year warranty. We cover the parts cost.

Theres no chance this guy could actually go to the Dell site, put in his tag and then start wondering...?

"yes sir, I know we charged you this price, but we decided that was too good of a system so we downgraded you accordingly to a lower spec system. Please don't worry we put those parts to good use..."

..heh is that was me, let's just say I would make your life hell. I would do everything within my power to ensure that company felt my pain. Taking apart a brand new laptop & swapping out parts w/o my knowledge...Heh...I wouldn't know where to start, but I sure as heck know where I would finish.

Yeah.....to be honest if I knew you guys played with a system I wanted ordered before I received it...I would be angry if you hadn't told me. To be honest, I think I would be ok as long as you guys told me that you did it and said you would carry the warranty for any parts they replaced.

What company do you work for? Ill work on tracing your IP and calling the BBB.

But seriously man, thats so wrong of you, you must have no ethics at all.
So you said he ordered that lower end laptop, and you guys ordered the better stuff, but where did you guys get the lower end stuff to swap out? From your used laptop? That would be kind of messed up.
that was a great idea !

I thought he bought the parts for 400 bucks lol. I thought it was too good of a deal lol.

Well, honey, in addition to what others have said already about this whole deal being highly questionable, you are clearly not very bright, are you? Posting that kind of a story in a public forum might be seen as, shall we say, problematic, by some. The naivete of some people around here never ceases to amaze me... Why don't you give us the name of your outfit as well? If your boss finds out that you can't keep your mouth shut, he'll have your ass fired faster than you can blink an eye. Hope your "perks" were worth it...

Yeah mate, I'd have to say that posting stuff like this just doesn't go well very often as most of us work quite hard for our technology needs so seeing someone get off easy or mess with another customer pisses people off Just a future warning.
