Sager 3.06?

Hi everyone,

I have spent the last several days reading the forum. There is an amazing amount of information on here for sure. I am on the brink of springing for my first Seger

Before I do however I have a couple questions I havent seen answered anywhere. So if I missed this in one of the threads, please forgive the waste of bandwidth.

First, is Seger planning on offering the 5660 with the 3.06 P4? I read they will not be doing HT in the 5660, but will they offer the 3.06 in a non HT configuration, like Hypersonic, Alienware, and some of the other Clevo resellers are doing? If not could one of the experts here tell me why that is? Maybe cost/performance thing?

Second, what kind of delay is introduced in the process of ordering and shipping if you decide to get the unit in one of the custom colors offered in the configuratior? Do you have to wait an extra two weeks while they are sent somewhere to be painted, or do they come that way from Seger?

Thanks to PcTorque for providing these forums, its an amazing source of information, and quite literaly allowed me to make a very informed and logical decision on my new rig. God im excited!

I ordered on a Wednesday (wire transfer), it shipped to Colorware that Friday (Mass. to Minn.?), and arrived in my hometown (Colo.) the following Friday (where it sat in a Fedex warehouse over a holiday weekend, but that's the breaks). I have an 8887X with 3.06. I added the HT BIOS when it was released, now they're shipping with it installed. Everyone was salivating for HT before they could get it. Search the forums, there's tons of posts. One of the main problems with the Sagers is deciding which bells and whistles to get! See my post, http://sagerforums.com/forums/showth...&threadid=1993 for some Midnight Blue pictures, and see the link in there for some Hybrid Red. Good luck!

Now, to your actual questions :
Sager will NOT offer the 5660 with the 3.06 HT because I believe there may be heat issues. Also I think there is something about not wanting customers to pay 250 extra dollars for just 200 mhz, instead of using the best part of the processor, HT.
Sager WILL OFFER the next generation 56xx series called the 5670 in a few months. The 8887 DOES have HT enabled.
This model will have HT and the M10 graphics card. If you aren't familiar with the M10 do a search in these forums and you will find more than enough info. on it.

Im not concerned with HT

OOPS! Sorry about the typo, Sager it is

I understand from reading the forum that HT in the 5660 is not going to happen. Sager however is the only Clevo reseller I have found that doesnt at least have an option for the 3.06 in non HT mode, and darn it I want to buy from PcTorque!

I guess its sensable that the cost versus performance increase might not be there, but 250 to get the extra horse power is definately something I would concider given the apps and uses I have planned for my new rig.

Oh well as my dad always said, Wish in one hand Crap in the other and see which hand fills first.

Thanks again for all the help, you guys are great!

Wow, I wonder if every dad said that to their kid. (mine did too)

the performance gains from that proc would probably do nothing for you.. even during Vid compulation. but if you truely want it, wait a month or so if you can. The 5670 will make you cry tears of joy ,

man do I want that M10

I think you're confused...the 5670 as of right now is planned to come with the 128MB M9 not the M10:

lol, i've never heard that quote. the wishing and crapping one.

Anyway, if you stick around for about a month, the 5670 will get released, and that'll basically be your 5660 with a 128 meg version of the same video card and 3.06 GHz with HT enabled. If you can stick around for, say, 4 months or more, you can get a kick-ass m10 video card and 800 mhz fsb.

Awesome colors Mate

I have like many other have been reading and watching and waiting for the right time to buy it seems like it is never the right time as they come out with the reallly cool processor bios upgrade then the m10 is just round the conor then it will be a faster processor and the new 21" screen(last two I made up I have no proof) but you get my point .. while they offer upgrad deal which is what laptops have needed for a long time I can't crack my wallet for the 3 grand just to be old by the time i get it and not the newest and best out there.

Of course I will still buy one of these sweet mega monsters as they are kick a-- over every one from any other vendor.
But i will wait untill the M1o is out as that is just too much to miss out on and who knows the 4.0ghz may be close at hand(again no proof just my wish).

but hold it im alone..???

From PCTorque himself in his 3-3-2003 updates post:

"For the 8886 and HT... The Intel 845E chipset in the case of the 8886 revision does not support the 3.06GHZ CPU due to the 70WATTs required to run stable with HT... the 8886 version of the motherboard only supports up to 60WATTs and therefore they will not release the 3.06 processor even without HT for the 8886 since the motherboard was designed for 2.0 - 2.8GHZ.

*************************************

The 5660 is the same case as the 8886 and it looks as though they will not release the 3.06 with HT in it. They are looking at a new motherboard revision which will also include the 128MB video and be known as the "5670". There are no dates on this as of yet."

End quote

So even a non HT 3.06 processor will not be possible in the 5660 because the motherboard revision physically cannot support the 70W power requirement for the 3.06 CPU. So I would recommend you stick around and wait and see what the 5670 brings! And may your wishing hand fill first.
