Successful Core 2 Duo CPU upgrade in DV8000

Hey folks,

Just for info, I yesterday fitted a T7400 Merom CPU (Core 2 Duo for mobile) into my HP Pavillion DV8000 series (DV8333) which originally had a T2300 Yonah CPU (Core Duo).

Very straightforward -if you can call stripping any modern laptop down to the screws, then having 3 orphaned screws when you put it all back together

Runs every bit as fast as the system benchmarks suggest for this CPU, which only costs me about 160 GB Pounds at this time (July 2007), so is a cheap upgrade. 3D apps (Vue, Bryce) are way faster as you'd expect -which was my reason for upgrade. Generally feels much more fluid and quicker using Windoze. Best bang-for-buck upgrade I ever saw

The Merom I used had the 667MHz bus -crucial point.

For info, I know CPU upgrades are a popular topic.

I did the same with my HP Pavilion dv9208nr. But the only problem I have now is my quickplay buttons light up but dont work and my battery won't charge. Any clues?

I'd do a strip-down and rebuild again, it wasn't the cpu that did that. Some of them little connectors are a pain, and those 'zif' ribbon connectors even more so...

hope you get it all sweet again

Hi friend! I did the same with my DV8339US laptop, replacing the Core Duo T2250 by Core 2 Duo T7600. Now I have a question for you: Since the C2D CPU supports EM64T instructions, can I install Windows 7 x64 on my laptop? And more importante, can I install more than 2 Gb RAM? I have this question because I saw the laptop specifications and it says that the Maximum Memory is 2 Gb, but I dunno if it's was a CPU or a Motherboard limitation.

. You should be able to install 64 Bits OS

. You are stuck with 2 gigo max on this comp (BIOS, chipset)

cheers ...

I finally did it, updated BIOS, installed new processor and more memory... I installed now 4gb, but Win7 x64 recognizes only 3gb... but I`m happy, because my laptop should only work with 2gb max before... so it`s better

I updated the Core Duo T2250 to Core 2 Duo T7600. The latest BIOS version available for my laptop is F.24 A installed using WinFlash for HP Notebooks. I'll try later a newer BIOS version (for other laptop model - I know the risk) to see if I can recognize the last 1 Gb available.

the latest BIOS update will always include previous updates in them in case you never did other updates...

successful C2D in DV8000

hello all. done upgrading with the last bios F.24. Is there any work around to get the RAM operating to 4GB rather than the max 3GB. Would be nice thing since this is a good lappy to work with.

I guess dhasse got stuck with 3GB as mentioned above if F.24 is the latest/newest BIOS you can have for this model. It is a shame really.

cheers ...
