my question is why the hell you care... as long as you got a good deal on it, you are happy with the features, and it works... what does it matter if its a real or fake. enjoy the damn computer

Sounds fake, if it's not on google and it cant be real!

Is that the serial number or a delivery number?? LOL! Best if you can get into the system BIOS and there should tell the model properly instead of the sticker on the back at laptop.

But hey, where you bought it? In a small store in China? What is the place like?

Dam i don't know, but you might have been scammed. Since chinese scams alot tourists... I'm pity being a chinese. T___T

EDIT: But hey, i maybe wrong, might not fake xD

If you check sony website by service tag, it shows it's model VGN-AR11S, you may also find that in bios.

Yes it is real because I have one. It's great. I have had mine now for 2 1/2 years. It has been reliable. I use mine for software dev work (i'm a contractor) and since buying it I've done approx 220,000 GBP worth o work on it.

If anyone can recomend a faster m/c with the same features + 500GB HD let me know.

Welcome to NBF, and thanks for input. Would you post some pics of the comp? It would be nice to have them here for reference.

cheers ...

Sony does that

Sony always has a strange model number listed on the bottom of their laptops. I think this is there to confuse people. The more common marketing part number (the one that you can easily google) is usually located at the bottom right or left border of the display, near one of the hinges and all Sony laptop model numbers start with "VGN". The AR series is great, I have seen some amazing deals on these super desktop replacements. Lately they even come with a 10-key in addition to the keyboard.

That model from China is the equivalent to the US VGN-AR170G and similar models around the world.
