8600m GT + Windows XP can't overclock?

I can't seem to get settings to stay in Windows XP with my new 1520's 8600m GT. I go to apply settings (in either rivatuner or ntune) and it just goes back to default settings.

In Vista, I can overclock fine.

(1) Congrats on getting your 1520!

(2) Might have something to do with Dell's XP Drivers - I have the same problem with my M1210 - you could try alternate drivers:

(1) Thanks! (2) I've been trying quite a few different ones, but all with the same result. If anyone else gets their 1520 and installs XP, and installs another driver, and is able to overclock (lots of ands), please tell me which driver revision you're using. Thanks! When I'm in Vista, this thing is a very nice overclocker. I can get the core from 475 to over 600Mhz easily, and with hardly any temperature increase. I can also clock the memory from 400MHz to 520 before I get artifacts.

Idea:

Have you tried using XP drivers from another manufacturer that uses the same video card in their laptops? Here are some laptops that use the 8600M GT:

Asus G1S & G2S
Acer Aspire 5920G
Sony VAIO AR Series

try unlocking your card, its a bios issue not a driver issue

It's not a bios issue considering I can overclock just fine in Vista.

Bah, nope! Doesn't allow overclocking in XP.

Please can you post some benchmark. I'm planning to get Dell 1520 too if it can play directx10 games at medium setting. Thanks

The drivers I mentioned above along with coolbits allow me to overclock mine however, in order for it to stick, you have to set the overclock in Additional Properties under the Geforce tab in Advanced Display Properties and let the "test changes" pass.

Oh, sorry for not updating the thread. I found some drivers a while ago that allow overclocking in XP with my 8600m GT.

i use forceware 165.01 with ati tool or ntune, clocks stick with ati tool just fine, running at 520/435 i get 6200 points in 3dmark05, and playing bf2142 i run at 40-60fps on any given level, and have tried company of heros too, worked great.

NGO's 158.22 drivers allow me to overclock. I've been able to get over 7200 points on 3dmark05 and over 3800 in 3dmark06 (1280 x 1024) with a bit of overclocking on my 1520.

yea i got about 7200 on 580/480 or so, but this driver i have now isnt good, freezes and stuff during games even on stock settings, can you post a link to the other driver? i just got done tearing it up on bf2142 for a couple hours running on 530/430 with no probs at all, doesnt even get 75C.
