Gaming is a non-factor in this. This is going to be a school laptop, with other recreational things like DVD playing, Photoshop, etc. Nothing too fancy. Thanks for any help... I'm having trouble finding any reviews on the HP... So if anyone knows anything about that too, please let me know.

I purchased an HP about 7-8 months ago for a friend and it's been a great little machine. The only major complaint I have with it is the mouse buttons are extremely "squishy".

I'd go with the dell just because you are probably going to get more for your money and HP just isn't offering anything other than base res screens atm. I'm addicted to my 1920 x 1200 and am not very happy about having to downgrade to anything else. The price you have listed is pretty high for the inspiron. Google "dell coupons" and see what's being offered currently. Other than that I would go intel rather than AMD atm. Oh and Gaming or not, I would try to get something with a dedicated GPU.

You would pay more for the dell but it would be better than the HP
