Installing Intel 4965AGN - E1705

Well when I opened up my E1705 to install it, I saw there were only 2 power cords (I dont know what to call the small power cables). Anyways the 4965 has 3 ports for power as you can see in this picture

I upgraded from a Dell 1500 draft N, which has only 2 of those powers, one on the left and right, but not one in the middle like the Intel has

I tried installing it with only the left and right ones, the same way the dell one was installed and it seems to work fine, but the Wifi light blinks like crazy if im ever doing anything (such as gaming, or everytime something is downloading)

I had to put electrical tape over it to cover the blinking because it got so annoying. Any help? Thanks

Hi
Strange, in my wife's D620 there are 3 connectors (currently She has 3945abg and It is connected to withe and black wire, gray is not connected, It is hide under keyboard). I thought that 1705 has the same scheme. Maybe you should try sniff around for 3. wire.
Good luck
Cheers

how did you access it.. the 2 wires are coming from a hole but I dont see any 3rd wire in there

EDIT:

I just tried to read up more on this problem, there is a thread talking about how HP's dont support 3 antenna's because there is only 2 antenna connections... So I suppose thats what im talking about, is the antenna conenectors.

There is what I was talking about, so is there really 3 and its just hidden or is there only 2 like I see? :/

I am using an E1705 with the 4965 and it works fine. You just connect the 2 antennas to any 2 of the 3 connectors. The third connector is just for better range if you have a third antenna.

Alright, thanks When I first got it I was scared it the connectors were for power, not just the antenna but yea after a few hours of reading I figured it all out

now i wonder if it would be possible to add the third wire as an antenna... anyone tried this?

also, how much better is this card vs. the 1500 n?

Hmmm well I noticed this gray cable when i was swapping broadcom based PCIE card with Intel 3945. It was just under keyboard placed in special hole (sorry I don't have picture).

Yes you can add an antenna to this setup. Actually what I had considered doing at one time is finding an open spot in the back plane of the system to cut a small hole in and put an external antenna mount into it. Then I could just hook up something like a 7db gain antenna to it and get some better range. Never did get around to doing that though... lol

what if i were to take the antenna out of a spare LCD cover and add it to the one I have? you think that might give a boost in signal?

Sorry but I don't have any plans to remove keyboard in near future. My Wifi logo blinks when there is some traffic. More traffic, more often blinking. I have the same situation in my Inspiron 9300 with Atheros chipset minipci wifi card.

Ditto. I got used to it quickly and don't even notice it now. Athereos cards are da bomb so I can deal with it.
