No Dell NO! - Page 2

How else do you think they were able to cram in another HD without a noticable difference in thickness in the E1720? A fan had to be sacrificed... but I hear the lone fan in there is faster and a lil quieter so it should supply sufficient cooling for the CPU/video combo's offered in the E1720 line-up.

Faster and quieter when it comes to fans is a contradiction

I highly doubt if you popped a 7900GS in there that it would not get easily over 100C under load. Idle maybe 60, 65

Single larger diameter fan that runs at a higher rpm and is ball-bearing instead of sleeve-bearing is quieter. =)~

When I first saw the new inspiron line i must say i was quite repulsed by it. I've been browsing the net for a replacement for my notebook for a while now, and I just love the design of the precision m90/inspiron 9400/xps m1710. It has all the ports I like and in the right spots, dual fans, etc. But now it looks like the vostro 1700 is gonna be better for me than the m90, as you get more diskspace/ram/features/etc for much less money. Bugger. I just wished they flipped the notebook around, with the fan and expresscard on the right hand side with optical drive/usb/network/monitor ports on the left. I'm actually considering looking elsewhere for a 17", but I think the 2watt speakers will keep me at Dell's mercy for some time...

Still, they could have kept the subwoofer, couldn't they?

Yeah, I was browsing around for laptops for college and when I saw the XPS2 I knew it was the real deal. Great design and performance. There's always hope for the "XPS4" but the Inspiron is pretty much a feature-lacking, same-as-the-rest-of-the-pack laptop now
